And here it is, the continuation. The story of H-1 before I proposed, one full day of sweat, nervousness, and happiness.
A Selfie Together Before We Left
That morning we planned to go to the traditional market near our house. It’s located in Mayong, Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia.
"Today we're shopping for our engagement," I said.
I swear, my hands were shaking holding my phone when she asked for a selfie She said, "I hope everything goes smoothly." I could only reply, "Aamiin."
In my heart: My wallet is about to get skinny.
2 Gold Rings in a Red Box
Mission one: The Gold Shop, this was the most nerve-wracking part, asking for prices, checking the weight, and getting offered this and that.
In the end, we chose simple designs. One with a small stone for her, and a plain one for me. When it was time to pay, the total made me hold my breath. But the moment I saw her smile while trying on the ring, it all felt worth it.
"This is proof that we're serious," I said.
Groom's Gift - Blue Basket
Next up, this is the gift from my fiancée to me. It’s all men’s stuff: Rexona, Head & Shoulders, Vaseline Men, Bellagio Perfume, and Pomade. Everything was wrapped neatly with a gold ribbon to make it look elegant.
It’s a tradition in our village to exchange gifts during marriage. Sometimes people even give motorcycles, gold, money, or even a refrigerator to the bride-to-be.
Bride's Gift - Red Basket
Now it’s my turn , this is the gift from me to my fiancée, the color is bright red and looks so festive, it’s a complete set: Nivea skincare, Biore, Wardah, Pepsodent, and Pucelle. Girls are really detailed when it comes to fragrance and beauty stuff My job was just to carry it and pay for it.
We’ll bring this during the engagement ceremony. And for the wedding, we’ll prepare another set like this too. Usually it also includes cakes, the dowry gold, and more.
Colorful Spoon & Fork Souvenirs
This took the longest time, we went around the market looking for souvenirs for our wedding guests.
In the end, we fell in love with this set of spoons and forks. There are 5 color choices, and they even say "Thank You" on them. They’re cute, affordable, and definitely useful.
Hopefully, on the big day, our guests will remember, "Oh, this is from A's wedding"
Money Bouquet of 100,000 Bills + Ring
I ordered this money bouquet 3 days in advance, it’s filled with 100,000 Indonesian Rupiah bills, the total is around $600 or 10 million Rupiah.
And right in the middle, I tucked in the ring box from earlier, Just imagine, tomorrow I have to kneel in front of her family, holding this, and say, "Will you marry me?"
Honestly, my heart was pounding, because the event will be at my fiancée's house with my family, and I’m sure many of her relatives will be there.
But this is my effort, proof that I’m serious about taking our relationship to the next level.
Dinner Alone in My Boarding Room
It was 9 PM when I finally got back to my boarding room, tired and starving, luckily I managed to grab some fried rice and seafood on the way home.
Ate dinner lying back on my bed, the room is so small, but the bed is way too big
While eating, my mind kept racing: "What am I going to say tomorrow? Will she say yes?" Nervous, but happy. Because every bit of this struggle is for our future.
And that was it,one whole day of preparation before the engagement.
