Four corners of a classroom and a young mind full of stories to write down. That was me in high school and still now after I graduated from my university. A single crumpled paper, I see it as an opportunity to write down what I want to share from my mind. When writing doesn’t satisfy me, I draw or paint. But how well do I know about myself? Then you better listen as I tell you about who I am.
Hola, bonjour, nǐ hǎo, ciao, konnichiwa, salam-alaikum! I am Sitti Alia B. Gomez but you can call me “Alia". I’m a fresh graduate from Bachelor of Elementary Education where I spent four years learning how to teach young minds. I am writing right now and thought this could be my online journal! Yes! An online space where I could share my daily life, interesting stories, beautiful travels, photos of beautiful moments that I want to capture to share with all of you.
Life as the fourth child of my family. I came from a family where education is highly emphasized. Valedictorians, salutatorians, high honors, those are my siblings and me? I wasn’t academically inclined but I was gifted kinesthetically. Drawing, painting, singing and skills? I’m the jack of all trades. Nurses, chemical engineers, accountants, business ads sort of and here I am, the first teacher in my family to graduate.
To be honest, being a teacher wasn’t in my mind when I was in elementary school, I wanted to become a nurse! Like my elder cousin, she was sweet, nice and caring. In my high school, that’s when I first wore a teacher’s uniform during our school’s career guidance. I never thought about becoming a teacher until I passed my SASE with flying colors. And there, I saw it, Bachelor of Elementary Education. I never thought I could see myself standing inside a classroom, teaching children with a smile!
And throughout my four years in college, I met the most wonderful people. My friends with the same goals. To build ourselves and graduate with full colors! And we did it!
Right now, life is hard, at least in my family’s current situation but we faced it all with smiles and enthusiastic spirit. We’re a family of middle incomers. Everytime someone who knows my parents hears one of their children graduate, they are always awed at how my parents managed to help us finish college with four year degrees in this economy financially. My answer? Grit, resilience, big dreams and hard work helped us. Each one of us in my family see our family as our motivation to work hard, to achieve more.
And say hello to our extra family members, Dumbo and Ken! The fluffy mischievous dog you see is Dumbo, named after Disney’s flying elephant with the big ears! And our half-orange cat, Ken, named from the Barbie movie. These two are the polar opposites, Dumbo is energetic, playful and definitely loves walking ahead of us while Ken is…a factory defect of being an orange. He is not talkative, never got any zoomies and totally nonchalant. He doesn’t meow but we still love him always.
Throughout my experiences in my 22 years of existence, I learned so many things. Things that made me laugh, cry and smile. I am grateful for what I am, and what I have right now. My dream career is still another step away as I prepare for my LET these months. I pray and thank God for the graces and strength he gave me. And right now, I’m thankful to Ma’am Antonette Langgamon @antonette @chinito for helping me find this amazing platform, especially the orientation and the onboarding. It's nice to meet you all and I’m happy I found this blogging platform, an online place where I could share my feelings just like now.
