God is a balanced God. If we fail to comprehend this, we may be tempted to embrace one aspect of His character while neglecting the other. When it pertains to the aspect of faith, the Bible presents it in two ways: First, as the body of revealed truth in the Word of God’; Second, as trust, believing God for miracles.
Yet, the highest expression of faith, as Hebrews 11 vs. 36 – 37 demonstrates, is committing ourselves fully to God’s Word and obeying Him regardless of cost:
>“And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented…”
Hebrews 11 is also a reflection of personal faith in action. It records the testimonies of men and women who pleased God by putting their trust in Him. Their faith produced results, demonstrating that God’s Word works today just as powerfully as it did before.
>Hebrews 11:32 - “And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions…”
