Imagine a parent giving up their only child to save others; this illustrates the intensity of God’s love, for He allowed His Son to be handed over to sinful men to redeem humanity from eternal sorrow: “He that didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” [Romans 8: 32].
The spread of God’s love is universal: He gave His Son for a sinful world [Romans 5: 8]. The impartiality of His love is obvious, His Son was given for all, without favoritism [Matthew 5: 45]. The beneficial richness of this gift is eternal life for everybody who receives Jesus as Lord and Saviour [John 3: 35 – 36].
Love is mutual and also binding. In Christ, love made God human and mankind divine. God’s love is the foundation of our Christian faith. The Bible informs us that we were born in sin and the wages of sin is death, not merely physical death but eternal separation from God.
As Apostle Paul states in Romans 8: 31-32, if God could give His only Son for our salvation, no greater sacrifice is imaginable. When we become Christians, we are advised to grow spiritually and reflect Christ in how we think, speak and act.
Living sacrificially, as Jesus modeled, is the hallmark of a life transformed by the love of God.
