Buying into Video Games as a 'stock'

My Brother has always had a philosophy about purchasing games were the premise was cool but the actual gameplay was lacking. He said it was like 'taking stock' in the game because over time the development would reach a stage where he could play it as a 'finished product' and for now, while the game was jank, the potential for greatness was there.

I suppose he is right because some games I had purchased long ago have recently released a 'polished enough' version of the game such as Angels Fall First and Project Zomboid.

But also some games like Hunt: Showdown over the last 2 years have had great leaps in development and actually expanding the enemies and weapons in the game after the long previous years of same weapons, same maps, same enemies, and so on.

I mean, I understand the concept. Hell, I think many participants on Hive do it for dApps they like too.

No Mans Sky and Fallout 76 had extremely poor launches but now years later they are actual solid games to play with communities that enjoy being in the space.

So... Maybe my Brother is onto something when it comes to buying video games in anticipation of what that promised final product will be. It's an interesting approach to early access video games with a big premise.

I'd be interested to hear any thoughts on 'early access' video game purchases and experiences with final products when they released.

Thank you for reading.

Happy Gaming!
