Having a secondary goal for a Virtual Fishing podcast

Published on HivePostify by @asynckronism · Mon Jun 01 2026

I previously posted some '[Virtual](https://peakd.com/hivegaming/@asynckronism/the-gaming-fisherman-new-world-reekwater-woes) [Fishing](https://peakd.com/asynckronism/@asynckronism/the-gaming-fisherman-new-world)' entries on the My Blog part on Hive and it was a written post with images of the journey. The concept was inspired by the tv show 'River Monsters' and my own fondness for the fishing activity in Video Games. I greatly enjoy the serendipity that comes with fishing in Video Games just because it is so different than what one would expect from regular resource gathering in a game.

Runescape and Mabinogi were probably the biggest influences that stuck with me concerning fishing and that wonder of what was in those virtual waters never left.

Now though I am looking to do an audio about my virtual fishing adventures, same format as the written blog posts but now me talking through the adventure and journey.

River Monsters is still a inspiration for me and I would like to have a 'fishing shack' that holds fishing novelty / themed furniture as well as a map of the game world if possible to point to during my ventures in these games as a 'secondary goal' and allow me to dig out this concept and give it an added depth via blog format.

The player houses don't have to be exactly accurate but it is the aesthetic I am looking for as well as having a fitting place for other virtual anglers to visit if they would like to connect.

But wouldn't you know it, player housing in MMORPGs takes a level of commitment I was seriously undervaluing. But instead of working towards a 'fishing shack' in the background with no knowledge being shared about it I figured it would be a great opportunity to share THAT player housing journey in each game I am attempting to do fishing in to be more transparent in my journey and keep viewers involved.

Sort of going 'all-in' on this fishing venture and just committing to it for myself. As I am fishing in games I have little personal experience in, I will be deferring to my 'fishing GuAIde' for specific locations that would best fit the fishing experience.

I will probably do 3 episodes in one game setting before rotating to another game to keep things 'interesting' but still have a story to follow before moving on. I will be starting my fishing expedition from an area of expertise, already having some levels in fishing just to avoid being boring with beginner level stuff.

The skills and levels will be 'elevated' but the fishing gear itself will probably still need to be upgraded and that is another element to add to this venture for viewers and myself as I 'hone' my gear and perhaps unlock crazier fish to hook.

The player housing I am looking to create and build up

- Throne and Liberty.

Deed signed!

This looks promising...

A dingy hole in the ground is my reward. Gotta build up house points for a better spot!

This game is more recent and the housing situation here gives me a chance to be more 'current' with graphics, location, and relevancy as it is a 'free to play' game. Once the house is built up to a desired outcome then I can begin inviting other players who want to visit or be a guest on this 'show'.

- Lord of the Rings Online

Rohan house! Very nice feel

Lake behind the house seen previously. Nice setting

Gondorian houses are fancy!

This view is pretty nice!

Obviously this game is a more aged but with age comes a whole world to explore with unique spots to cast off from. There are plenty of fishing deeds to complete and lots of fishing trophies to collect and show off. The housing situation here is more 'sterile' but again, a free-to-play game that allows me to invite other players who want to visit or be a guest on the show.

- Stardew Valley

Day 3 house but it already has some 'Fishing shack' elements when starting

Not an MMORPG but I would like to have a neutral 'home' area incase any of the previously mentioned MMORPGs shut down (Damn you Amazon for killing [New World](https://peakd.com/myblog/@asynckronism/the-blow-of-new-world-aeternum-shutting-down)!) and Stardew Valley does offer lots of aesthetics and themes related to my mission. Not free-to-play but it is a verified trusted game with some elements of fishing. Don't know if I'll share progress on this one as I will need a game to just play and not be 'on', even if all these player house posts will be written blog posts with images.

- Others Depending on how these player houses go, once I reach a certain point I may just be like ' it' and say this part of the venture was too ambitious. But nobody knows that until I (attempt) to get there.

And that's it!

Now to begin recording and posting those audios on [my Domain](https://asynckronism.com/) (Looks subject to change!) and go further than I've ever gone with this idea.

Fishing with a familiar character in LOTRO

Thank you for reading!

Stay tuned!
