Not to state the obvious but I think most people would agree that figuring out the best AI monetization path is the leading concern of most companies in current times.
From those building the AI to those merely using the technology, everyone is breaking their backs trying to find the edge that drives up revenue with this one.
You can see it across different parts of the industry.
Companies are experimenting with different products, pricing models, services, and ways of integrating AI into what they already do. Some are looking at direct revenue from AI products, while others are more focused on how the technology can improve what is already working for them.
Even the companies that aren't directly building AI seem to be looking for ways to plug it into their existing businesses and see what it can unlock.
There is a lot of testing, iteration, and movement happening around what actually works, what customers are willing to pay for, and where AI fits into the bigger picture.
Now, I'm not here to talk about what the revenue looks like today, but the long term.
Yes, making money is where all roads lead, but before that usually comes the part where big risks need to be taken.
We can see a lot of this playing out in the business world today.
Lots and lots of big moves, acquisitions here and there, fresh investments and funding press releases too, sizable figures being thrown around like nothing.
Companies are making decisions that would have looked extremely aggressive a few years ago, but seem a lot more understandable in the context of where AI is heading.
The data is just there to support the argument. This is a big race towards capturing the best parts of the industry, and Nvidia recently decided they needed the distribution layer.
Hugging Face
>I’m excited to announce that NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12,930,300,000. Together, we will scale Hugging Face’s platform, strengthen its infrastructure and expand access to AI for developers and institutions worldwide.
Now here's the important part:
>More than 18 million developers, researchers and creators use Hugging Face to share more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications. More than 200,000 companies use the platform to discover, evaluate, customize and deploy AI. – [Report](https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/nvidia-to-acquire-hugging-face/)
Is this acquisition a smart move?
I think that there are numerous points to raise to argue for the notion that this is a smart move, but for today I'd like to point out that owning a platform like Hugging Face is like owning a value-transfer route for millions of business owners.
Over 18 million developers and 200,000 known companies, at this time, makes up that business network.
Nvidia offers critical solutions for this network of users, and although the report emphasis that users will not be mandatorily required to use Nvidia solutions, it's only to be expected that in some form, Nvidia benefits greatly from owning the layer all of this runs on, in the long term.
