Hello there, fellow travelers! It is a pleasure to greet you and wish you an excellent, blessed day. Continuing my tour of the city of Puerto la Cruz—known for its beautiful beaches and other attractions—today I’m sharing my walk along the breakwater jetty located very close to Paseo Colón in Pozuelos Bay. This promenade is a bustling area offering a view of the mountain on Borracha Island, part of Mochima National Park. As I’ve mentioned before, this park spans the states of Sucre and Anzoátegui and comprises various beaches and islands.
Beyond its function as a breakwater, the jetty is one of the most popular spots in the Paseo Colón area for watching the sunset, enjoying the sea breeze, taking in the beautiful scenery, and strolling along the water's edge 🏖️. Facing the jetty, you can see various buildings, hotels, and shops, as well as Las Monjas Hill. Along the pier, there is a series of gray posts set on yellow bases; these feature LED lights and the Venezuelan flag at the top, forming a line that stretches approximately 500 meters from the entrance to the far end. Nearby, there are several booths providing information on boat departures to the park's islands. I visited in the morning; the sky was clear and the breeze cool. I started the walk with my son, and it was a lovely experience. The rocks are strategically placed to form a straight, solid walkway; the side facing the beach slopes downward, serving as a breakwater. There are also steps providing access to the bollards where boats are moored. The water was a beautiful green near the shore, while further out it looked blue. As we walked, several birds flew by, and I took the opportunity to photograph them; something that caught my attention during the walk was the number of birds—apparently pelicans—flying over this area of the beach.

Hola, hola amigos viajeros, es un placer saludarles, deseando que tengan un excelente y bendecido día, continuando mi recorrido por la ciudad de Puerto la Cruz la cual destaca por sus hermosas playas y otros atractivos, hoy les comparto mi caminata por el Espigón rompeolas ubicado muy cerca del paseo Colón en la bahía de pozuelos, el mencionado paseo es una zona concurrida y desde allí se puede divisar la montaña de la Isla Borracha, ubicada en el parque Nacional Mochima, como lo he mencionado anteriormente, este parque se ubica entre los estados Sucre y Anzoátegui y está integrado por varias playas e islas.
Además de su función como un pequeño muelle rompeolas, el Espigón, es uno de los espacios más visitados en el área del paseo Colón para observar el atardecer, disfrutar la brisa marina, ver el hermoso paisaje y hacer caminatas por la orilla de la playa 🏖️ al frente se ubican varios edificios, hoteles, establecimientos comerciales, el cerro las Monjas y a lo largo del muelle hay una serie de postes ubicados en una base de color amarillo, estos tienen lámparas led y la bandera de Venezuela en la parte superior, son de color gris y forman una columna desde la entrada del muelle hasta la parte final abarca aproximadamente 500 metros, al lado de ellos se ubican varias casillas donde se ofrece información para la salida de los botes a las islas del parque; mi visita fue en horas de la mañana, el cielo estaba despejado y la brisa fresca, inicié la caminata caminata en compañía de mi hijo y fue una linda experiencia, las rocas están estratégicamente ubicadas creando una caminería recta y sólida, hacia el lado de la playa tiene una forma inclinada, es aquí donde realiza su función de rompeolas, también cuenta con escaleras para acceder a los tubos donde se amarran los botes, el agua tenía un hermoso color verde en la orilla y hacia el fondo se veía de color azul, mientras caminábamos pasaron volando varias aves y aproveché para tomarle fotos, algo que llamó mi atención durante la caminata es que muchas aves al parecer pelícanos vuelan esta zona de la playa.
As we continued our walk, we admired the beautiful mountain in the background and the pilings that support the boats; these also serve as perching spots for local birds—and we saw plenty of them. There is also a small boat near the pier; the jetty features steps where boats dock for boarding. The water here is calm, making it a strategic spot to take in the scenery and the bay. To one side, you can see buildings, the Corpoturs headquarters, and the vast sea in shades of blue and turquoise. It is an ideally located spot for a walk. On our way back, we paused several times to closely observe the birds and the mountain, and to enjoy the fresh morning breeze.
Mientras avanzábamos en la caminata, pudimos observar la hermosa montaña al fondo y algunos tubos que sirven de soporte a los botes, estos también constituyen una parada para las aves que vuelan en el área, debo decir que fueron muchas las que vimos, también se encuentra un pequeño bote cerca del muelle, para embarcar en los botes el espigón, cuenta con unas escaleras hasta allí llegan los botes y se accede a ellos, el oleaje en esta zona es suave y un punto estratégico para observar el paisaje y la bahía; a uno de los lados se ven los edificios, la sede de Corpoturs y el inmenso mar con tonalidades azul y turquesa, este espacio es ideal para hacer las caminatas y un punto con un excelente ubicación, de regreso hicimos varias pausas para observar las aves con detenimiento, la montaña y disfrutar la fresca brisa de la mañana.
I liked the view of the jetty and the reddish, brown, and gray rocks that give the walkway a relaxed, inviting feel; at the far end, there is a small mound of rocks, and behind it, a path made of smaller stones for those who love adventure and venturing out toward the sea. We only went close enough to look at this path but didn't venture further, as we weren't wearing the right footwear to cross it. A local resident we spoke with for a few minutes explained that the white pilings near the jetty used to support a wooden-slatted walkway for accessing boats; these had been removed for repairs. It had been a sort of gangway stretching from the stairs to the boat access point. He also mentioned that boat trips increase on weekends, and sometimes reservations must be made in advance due to high demand, as families and visitors flock to the area to enjoy the rides and the beautiful bay views. After chatting with the gentleman, we thanked him for his time and information and headed to another part of the city to continue exploring.
Me gustó la vista del espigón y las rocas de color rojizo, marrón y gris que le dan un estilo relajado y acogedor a la caminería, en la parte final hay una pequeña montaña de rocas y detrás de ella un camino de rocas más pequeñas para quienes aman la aventura y adentrarse en el mar, solo nos acercamos a ver este sendero y no quisimos avanzar hasta allá, ya que no llevamos el calzado adecuado para cruzar por él; de acuerdo a la información de un residente con quien conversamos varios minutos, nos explicó que los pilotes de color blanco ubicados cerca del espigón, anteriormente constituían un camino con listones de madera para acceder a los botes, estos fueron retirados para su reparación, era una especie de pasarela que iniciaba desde la escalera hasta el punto de acceso a los botes, también nos explicó que los fines de semana se incrementan los paseos en bote y en ocasiones hay que hacer la reservación con anticipación debido a la gran demanda, pues las familias y visitantes acuden a esta zona para disfrutar el paseo y las hermosas vistas que ofrece la bahía, luego de conversar con este señor le agradecimos por su tiempo e información y avanzamos hacia otra zona de la ciudad para seguir explorando.
