Friendship with the Holy Spirit: The money was distributed according to the needs of the people. Acts 4:35

The Book of Acts tells of the early days of the primitive Church, when the disciples of Jesus lived in communion and friendship with the Holy Spirit. And this was based on a spiritual truth, just as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one wisdom, so too were the disciples one heart, intimately united by the perfect love of Jesus. The disciples had discovered at Pentecost that pearl of great price, and there was great joy among them; the disciples of Jesus were no longer rational or soulful men but spiritual men, born from above, and in possession of that life that Jesus had announced, the eternal life or contemplative life. And this is how the Book of Acts describes this new life that the disciples had received, a life no longer based on selfishness but on the truth of the spirit: "All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had" Acts 4:32. With these words, the Book of Acts relates that the disciples were free from everything that comes from human concupiscence, that is, from the inclination of the mind to error. Because when people are subject to concupiscence, that's when the ego appears, and the desire to possess centered on oneself, and to affirm "this is yours", "this is mine". Divisions and conflicts in human beings are therefore born from concupiscence. And the Book of Acts continues its story in a special way, because it describes how money was used; the Church sought the common good of all, the "general welfare," and not personal gain, and with these words the Book describes what was happening: "There was no one in the group who was in need. Those who owned fields or houses would sell them, bring the money received from the sale, and turn it over to the apostles; and the money was distributed according to the needs of the people" Acts 4:34-35. What the Book of Acts ultimately explains is that friendship with the Holy Spirit means "everything belongs to everyone," because people no longer fight for scarce goods like money, power, or honors, but for spiritual goods like God's mercy and love. Friendship with the Holy Spirit then reveals a new state of consciousness where there are no longer divisions but unity in the wisdom of God.
