The sapiential literature in the Bible teaches that living in accordance with the ethical laws of the universe is living wisely. And the Book of Proverbs, written by King Solomon, with its beautiful maxims and principles for living, repeats this idea with great emphasis. Folly, which is the opposite of wisdom, consists of subordinating, of placing first in decision-making, one's own fleeting priorities, such as the desires of passion and greed, over the counsels of the divine science. And this is because people primarily focus on the short term, while the repercussions of one's own mistakes and successes primarily operate in the very long term. And if there is one thing the Book of Proverbs teaches, it is that wisdom should not be taken in vain; wisdom is the science of the correct means to live. And it is for all these reasons that the Book of Proverbs, in one of its maxims for living, recalls the law of sowing and reaping with these words: "Those who lead good people along an evil path will fall into their own trap, but the honest will inherit good things" Proverbs 28:10. The law of sowing and reaping is a universal ethical law of balance, learning, and retribution, a cosmic law that should always be taken into account. And the proverb is very clear: he who sets traps for others sooner or later falls into his own trap. But then the proverb explains something else: the righteous will inherit a blessing. And the spiritual gift of righteousness is always acting according to ethical principles like the Silver Rule: "Never do to anyone else anything that you would not want someone to do to you" Tobit 4:15. Examples of righteousness in the Bible were Kings David, Solomon, and Hezekiah, who guided the nation of Israel on the right path and were blessed with riches, happiness, longevity, and great glory. Those who decide to embark on the path of spirituality must not forget the principles on which the universe works; there is no magic, but rather intelligence applied to making the most excellent decisions, and those who understand this achieve true success in life.
