GOING TO BED LAST NIGHT AND REALISING THERE IS FIRE ABOUT - My painting below

Bushfire is about 5-6km to the south of us.. so i painted it

Again, we are fine.... It will have to burn 200 houses and skip a highway to get here... however the smoke is a bit much.

Last night we were watching The Night Watchman, (awesome British drama) and going to bed i went to lock up and checking the doors i was like... "HELLO what is that..." and opened the front door to the waft of smoke. pitch black and you can still see it in the air. So i checked the QlD fires board, and found its the next suburb over from us. a big VERY DRY forested area. We didn't get a phone alert as we are out of the danger zone. However that does NOT mean we were out of the smoke.

Following the QLD fires site... i saw as up to about 30 fire trucks heading out that way. And by morning it seemed to be out.

Until about 9am when (as it often does) something in the dry bushland caught and held and up she roared again. with currently 20 fire trucks trying to get it out and backburn enough of the surrounding grass to protect the homes butted up to the Aussie bushland.

Everything is so DRY. we have had no "rain" in weeks. not enough to soak the bushlands anyway.

So i did what any painter does... "well i need a subject for today's daily painting" and off i went to find a suitable view to paint.

Today's Painting is Today's painting.... Ground: Canvas Panel Paint: acrylic Colours: black, orange red, orange ( i think i use cadmium orange once a year, but i felt this deserved it) white, yellow and a teal blue green because i was lazy. Time: seriously i think this was a FOURTY FIVE min effort. Its ballet night and i was cooking dinner AND needed to do ballet runs. So that was about all i had. However, effective i think.

Above you can see the progression shots of the painting. tip

When painting something like this, a cheats way i do, is to paint the red glow under the black areas first. s when i use the black over the top, its richer, warmer and you get a glow from the red. rather than the white. its actually quite effective. and i like it.

Other views of the fire

As you can see we are a few kilometers away, however you can well see the smoke haze in the air. And this evening they upgraded out street to "smoke affected" and to take care. The people with asthma are having a hard time.

Fingers crossed they stop it entering the ripley estate. THANK YOU FIRE BRIDGADE!!!

above you can see some screen shots from the news, the view from our street and the photo of the fire front and my representation of it.
