The Truth Shall Be Revealed

Yesterday I had to use the bathroom. I know, I know --

My husband still wouldn't wake up yet, despite my efforts, so I gave our 4 and 3-year-olds a couple of markers, some paper, one of their shows on the TV, and I then went into the bathroom.

Not even 20 seconds later upon my entering the bathroom, I could hear one of my daughters outside the door. I opened it to peep out (while on the toilet, mind you) to find my oldest standing in front of the dresser mirror, half of her face already covered in marker.

(Pictures of my family are my own)

I looked at my mother-in-law -- yes, we also live with Grandma! 😄 I don't bother to mention her because she is so useless, it's basically like she's nonexistent, and you are about to learn this fact for yourself...

I looked at my MIL to find her nose about as deep into her phone as it could go, facing in the direction of my daughter, sitting just mere CENTIMETERS away from her.... The epitome of ignorance, if you will... ---------------------

And I abruptly confronted her -- I never intended to, but it could not be held back any longer. After many years of Grandma treating watching her grandchildren like it's a burden -- no obligation to move her lazy bones, just WATCH them, with her EYES! Under her supervision, we have caught our kids opening balcony windows, getting into drawers with sharp objects, standing on top of chairs when they were only 2ft. tall...

It just came out, like vomit: "Can you be bothered to watch them for one second, please?" -----------------------

Whereas, my MIL EXPLODED at me -- "They're not my responsibility!! 🤬 They draw on themselves with markers EVERY DAY!! 😡"

I replied, "Being a grandmother and being bothered to watch your grandchildren didn't end just because all your other ones are grown up -- can you please get your nose out of your phone for one minute?"

"Oh, as if I have to listen to YOU! 🤬" --------------------------

"Well, she's right," my husband chimed in several hours later when I told him about the confrontation. "Why DOES she have to listen to you?"

And, despite being absolutely flabbergasted and beat down and tired of having to explain myself, to my HUSBAND of all people but it IS his mommy, I answered, "Because, even when we DO ask for her attention to babysit/watch them, she still doesn't watch them. Because her want to have her own children didn't erase the possibility of future grandchildren, and the responsibility that comes with being their grandmother, especially if she WANTS THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING IN THEIR LIVES. Because it is a family duty to ensure our children don't pick up bad habits (drawing on themselves), especially ones they already know not to do. Because I'm their MOTHER?..." --------------------------

But seriously folks -- talk about enough never being enough for some people, huh?! 🥴 I'm sick with an HG pregnancy for a fifth time, dealing with nausea and vomiting, my husband still asleep, my MIL useless, no one who can be bothered to watch my children for 5 minutes -- and I'M the one getting in shit for using the bathroom (no pun intended)! 🥴🥴

Anyway, of the things I learned yesterday, there were two that will stick with me for the rest of my life... Grandma has never given two shits about her grandchildren (or me, if it counts for anything 👋) and it's why I've been miserable for our entire four years of living here... And, considering how Grandma feels about her LIVING grandchildren, I think it's safe to say that my hunches about her wishing death on her UNBORN ones (and me, again, if it counts 😅) have been grounded in truth... --------------------------

When we can no longer count on our own families -- may God have mercy on us all... ---------------------------
