[Hundreds killed, more than 1,000 missing in Nepal and China after Himalayan flood](https://www.channelnewsasia.com/asia/nepal-tibet-landslide-flash-floods-missing-tourists-glacier-collapse-6344631) > "Dramatic footage on Wednesday showed enormous torrents of muddy water and debris tearing through structures in the border crossing area within seconds and engulfing people trying to flee. All the buildings in the border-crossing complex, including the border gate, a stately building bearing China's national emblem and housing customs and immigration agencies, were destroyed by the mudslide, footage filmed from a military helicopter surveying the area and broadcast on state television showed. The entire compound was reduced to an unrecognisable mass of destruction, caked in thick, muddy debris and almost devoid of any sign of civilization, the footage showed. The tally of missing in Tibet's Gyirong County was 558, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said on Thursday, including 260 foreign nationals. China said the death toll stayed at three. China's Premier Li Qiang, the country's No. 2 official, arrived at the disaster-stricken site in Gyirong on Thursday afternoon, state-run Xinhua news agency said. The visit suggested Beijing was treating the disaster as a matter of the highest national priority."

--- If you watch the videos, you will see that most of the missing didn't have any chance of surviving. Especially the Chinese border post was hit very hard. There's nothing left. You have to wonder, though, whether this time the Chinese authorities will admit to more than 30 dead. I guess, they will have to because of the many foreigners who are missing and probably dead. But - considering the amount of water and mud - many of the missing probably will never be found. Then again, they stuck with the number of 3 dead for the whole day already. So that's suspicious. And inside Tibet, they are already trying to cover things up. Nobody should know too much and commie cadres are ordered to keep the population under control.

[Typhoon Narra: record flood waters submerge homes and force mass evacuations in China](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/aug/26/typhoon-narra-floods-evacuations-china) > "Authorities in Chongzuo, in China’s Guangxi region – famous for its giant waterfalls and karst limestone mountains – on Tuesday evacuated more than 15,000 people after water levels surpassed a record high set in 2008. Rising flood waters have prompted China to relocate a total of 54,000 people in Guangxi, state television said."

--- The catastrophe in the Tibet-Nepal border area at least offers distraction from other disasters that are actually going on at the moment in China. You can bet that you won't hear much about many victims there.

[China industrial profits growth cools to slowest in seven months as economic slowdown deepens](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/08/27/china-industrial-profits-july-factory-production-.html) > "Industrial corporate profitability, however, has seen a notable turnaround, swinging from barely positive growth last year to double-digit gains this year. That recovery was largely helped by a global artificial intelligence boom that fueled demand for computing and electronics equipment manufacturing. The integrated circuit industry, led by computing and storage chip manufacturers, saw profits expand 18.5% in the January-July period from a year earlier, contributing over 80% of the profit gains across the electronics sector [...] Raw materials manufacturers also saw profits expand 55.2% this year as of end-July from a year earlier. Petroleum processing industry turned a profit over the seven months as supply disruptions in the Middle East pushed up prices for lower-stream chemical products. "

--- Which means that profit growth - mind you, official numbers only - was restricted to only a few sectors. And the other part of it was induced by a foreign crisis.

[Nvidia is bolstering support for Chinese open AI models as it warns of White House crackdown](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/08/27/nvidia-chinese-ai-models.html) > "“Developers will play a crucial role in building the winning AI ecosystem,” the Nvidia employee said. “China has one of the largest populations of developers in the world, creating open-source foundation models. Every model should run best on the U.S. technology stack, encouraging nations worldwide to choose America.”"

--- The Chinese AI models are not open-source, they are open-weight, which is a major difference. And because much of the technology is stolen from the USA, not developed on their own, they can offer their models cheaper. Which means that in third world countries their models will be preferred anyway. Even many Western companies, idiotic as they are, are choosing Chinese AI models because they are cheaper.

> "By optimizing platforms such as DeepSeek and Qwen, Nvidia is reinforcing its position as the preferred infrastructure layer for AI developers and enterprises regardless of where leading models originate"

--- They are only delaying the inevitable: being kicked out of China.

[DOJ blames China for string of hacks targeting federal agencies and hospitals](https://www.politico.com/news/2026/08/26/doj-fbi-china-hacks-01050956) > "Chinese hackers carried out a yearslong coordinated campaign to worm their way into federal networks — including those at the Departments of Energy and Health and Human Services, as well as the U.S. Senate"

--- What a surprise!

> "a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington said the Chinese government “firmly opposes and combats all forms of cyberattacks in accordance with the law."

[China advises its citizens to leave Taiwan ally Eswatini over 'security risks'](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3rel9rgnx5o) > "China's foreign ministry has told its citizens to leave the southern African kingdom of Eswatini over "security risks". The ministry cited "rampant cyber fraud and criminal activities associated with gambling" as among its security concerns, but did not give details. It suggested its citizens relocate as soon as possible to "relatively safer" countries such as neighbouring South Africa."

--- Yeah, because South Africa is famously one of the safest countries in the world.
