Fall Ball

As the weather starts to turn colder, we also start to turn our thoughts to football, and more importantly, fall softball. Except, it's hot as balls out right now and it doesn't feel like that is going to change anytime soon. I remember a few years ago we had some fall camping trips that ended up being hotter than many of our summer camping trips.
This world is nuts!
The Radford fall softball schedule is set, but it doesn't look like we are going to be able to make it to any of the games. Which sucks, but that just gives us more incentive to make it that way in the Spring when they are in the regular season. We just have to wait until that schedule is released and then we can start planning the best time to make the drive down to Virginia.
I don't recall if I mentioned this, but Radford has a new coach and staff this year. Joe Pound is taking over at the head of the Highlanders after having some success down in Florida and some small colleges down there. It will be interesting to see how he handles the Division I competition. Word on the street is, he came from the tech world before being a coach, so I kind of like him already.
Our niece said she got a chance to meet the coaching staff and she is really excited about the coming year. She thinks the new coach is going to fit in really well and it should be a good dynamic for the team.
Rounding out the coaching staff we have Molly Jacobson as an assistant coach as well as Ramses Cordova as another assistant.
Things really kick off for the team at the end of September with their first fall ball game happening at home on September 26th against James Madison University. Then they have another home game against Virginia Tech on October 3rd before they finally hit the road and head to Charlotte Virginia to play UVA on October 9th. We got the chance to see them play at UVA last year which is the photo you see in this post.
October 10th they are back at home playing Ferrum College before they make the short drive to Virginia Tech to face the Hokies again on their field on October 16th.
Finally, they close out their fall season by facing Liberty University in Lynchburg Virginia on October 24th. It should be a good yet challenging start for the Lady Highlanders.
They had quite a few players enter the portal and leave after their old head coach left, so this is a bit of a rebuilding year for them, but I think they have a lot of good pieces to build something great!
