Losing Hope

Well, it looks like that end of the season magic I was hoping to see isn't going to happen. There are just over three weeks left in the MLB regular season, and it would appear the Detroit Tigers have little to no chance of making it to the playoffs. They currently sit second to last in the AL Central just above Kansas City with 64 wins to KC's 63 wins. Which means they are really just one bad series against KC away from being at the bottom. Meanwhile, Minnesota who throttled them the other day 15 to 2 have 67 wins, Cleveland has 70 wins, and the White Sox have found their way to the top with 73 wins.
Tampa Bay is the big winner though sitting at the top of the AL East and the American League as a whole. They have 83 wins, with the Yankees close behind them at 80 wins. The Red Sox have 76 wins, Toronto has fallen all the way down to fourth place in the AL East with 70 wins, and Baltimore is right behind them with 69 wins.
Finally, over in the AL West, Houston sits at the top with 72 wins, Texas has 70, Seattle is clutching onto 66 wins, and then we have the Athletics and the Angels way down at the bottom with 55 and 53 wins respectively. That has to be a really sad fan base right there. I'm not saying the Tigers are much better, but woof!
That leaves The Rays, White Sox, and Astros in a spot to be in the playoffs right now. Meanwhile, the Yankees, Red Sox, and Guardians would be looking at a wildcard berth.
Meanwhile, over in the National League, Milwaukee is the darling right now with 87 wins leading both the NL Central, but also the National League and the whole MLB in wins.
The Cubs sit a bit below them in the NL Central at 79 wins, St. Louis has 70 wins, then Pittsburgh and Cincinnati bring up the rear with 69 and 67 wins.
In the NL East, we have Atlanta at the top with 83 wins, followed by Philly with 79 wins, then Miami at 71 wins. Washington sits in fourth place with 67 wins, and the Mets hold the bottom with 63 wins.
Finally, in the NL West, the Dodgers have slid a bit only having 83 wins, but they are still well above the Diamondbacks who only have 74 wins on the season. San Diego is close behind with 73 wins, followed by San Francisco and Colorado way down at the bottom with 58 and 54 wins. It's really for some of those west coast teams this year I guess.
That means, The Brewers, Braves, and Dodgers all have a pretty decent shot at being in the playoffs, with the Phillies, Cubs, and Diamondbacks eyeing wild card slots in the NL.
Like I said, it looks like the Tigers are going to have to call it and start focusing on next year. I hope it goes better for them than this one did!
