Invito a mis amigas @iisymarie2 y @popurri a participar, ¡saludos!

It’s always refreshing to take a moment to reflect on other topics when our minds are so full of thoughts, emotions, and feelings—as is the case for us Venezuelans right now; that’s why I’m sharing this new proposal from my friend @emiliorios [“No, That’s Not Negotiable!”—“What Are Your Limits?”—Initiative No. 25 on Seventh-day Sunday](https://peakd.com/hive-131951/@emiliorios/no-eso-no-es-negociable-cuales-son-tus-limites-iniciativa-no-25-en-domingo-de-septimo-dia-esen) inspires and encourages me to turn my thoughts to something else that distracts and interests me. Thanks for that, my friend!
The thing is, as soon as I started reading the original post, I immediately began listing my “non-negotiables” in life—that is, my personal boundaries—the ones I won’t tolerate anyone crossing or violating; but like everything else, an introduction to the topic is necessary. I think that each person’s personal boundaries vary depending on their personality, understanding, and way of feeling, although there are some boundaries that should be universal—such as respect for the lives of men and women, respect for human dignity, and a few others—but that’s a topic for another post; for now, let’s focus on what brought me here.
First, as I mentioned at the beginning, we all have different boundaries, and to understand them, we must take into account many factors, such as personality, level of tolerance, and even each person’s culture. In my case, over the years I’ve realized that those personal boundaries have become stronger and have even changed. For example, a few years ago, I tried to “conform” to situations and people I didn’t entirely like, all to avoid being the one who didn’t fit in with my family or friend circles; but as the years went by, I realized that these things were wearing me down mentally and even physically, so I decided to reinforce those boundaries that I myself sometimes crossed just to please those around me.
So, to set my boundaries more firmly, I stopped attending gatherings where I knew I’d feel uncomfortable in some way, I began to focus on what I enjoyed: getting out into nature, reading, writing—and for that, you often need solitude, your own time, and your own space. Little by little, my social circle cleared out without me even noticing. It’s not that I became a hermit, but rather that I’ve become more selective with the people I choose to spend time with, with my time, and with my energy—because those things aren’t given to just anyone; they’re too valuable. I was generally reserved about these things already, but now I’m even more so, and I free myself from so many things that don’t really uplift me—like situations that bother me, such as gossip and envy—and, as my grandmother used to say, “Sometimes it’s better not to know certain things so you don’t have to explain yourself.”
Just like so many sayings, such as “no one is a nuisance in their own home”—and that’s very true. These days, I devote myself more to myself, my family, and a few close friends who have proven to be like family to me; that’s why right now I won’t let anyone try to manipulate me in any way, or turn me into their “salt bin,” as our grandparents used to say—and these are nothing more than people who enjoy being disrespectful, committing injustices, being dishonest, and showing a lack of loyalty. These are values that will never go out of style for me, because these days what’s good is called bad, and what’s bad is called good—but I’m very clear on this.
Thanks to this, my inner peace has remained at healthy levels that are reflected in my physical health and even in my smile, and although I’m still the same person, I now see my life through different eyes, with an identity that’s no longer clouded by confusion. I invite my friends @iisymarie2 and @popurri to join in—cheers!
