I am not a fan of British or American movies. Let me just say that most of the movies I watch are Nigerian. But Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story changed that for me. I know this is not a new series, but I still want to talk about it with people who have watched it because, honestly, I just watched this movie and I have so much to say about it.
My favourite characters in the story are young Charlotte and King George. Charlotte was married off to King George by her brother. On arriving in England, she was assigned a personal guide, Brimsley. What surprised her was that nobody was willing to tell her anything about the man she was about to marry. She tried engaging people in conversations about her future husband, but everyone avoided the topic.

On the morning of her wedding, Charlotte decided she was going to escape. She was literally trying to climb over a fence when a gentleman approached her and asked what she was doing. She explained that she was about to marry a man everyone refused to talk about and that she wanted to escape. She then asked the gentleman to help her over the fence.

He refused, asking why he should help a woman who did not want to marry him. That was when Charlotte realised that the gentleman standing in front of her was actually the man she was supposed to marry😂. And King George! Let me just say, he was handsome But beyond his looks, I loved his caring nature.
King George had been battling a mental illness for years, and it was the biggest secret surrounding his life. He tried to hide his condition from Charlotte and even chose not to live with her during their honeymoon. Despite the medications and treatments he received, his condition persisted.
But Charlotte was persistent and confident. Even after discovering the truth about George, she was willing to stay and do life with him. Their relationship showed me another meaning of love. Charlotte did not see George only through his illness; she saw the person behind it. She stood by him and constantly reminded him that he was not alone. She even took an interest in the things he loved. She learned about his fascination with the sky, planets and the sun. She also became interested in farming because she wanted him to feel comfortable around her. One thing I loved about their relationship was how Charlotte made George understand that together, they were stronger. She encouraged him to believe in himself even when he struggled to do so.
Their story portrayed love as something that requires patience, sacrifice, understanding and companionship. It wasn't perfect, but perhaps that was what made it beautiful.
Another character I really loved was Lady Danbury.

Lady Danbury had been betrothed to an old man since she was only three years old. Her life, like that of many women in the story, was decided for her before she was old enough to understand what marriage even meant.
Her friendship with Queen Charlotte was interesting because, although their stories were not exactly the same, both women were confident, intelligent and determined to have a voice in a society that constantly tried to silence them.
They were beautiful women, but their beauty was not the only thing that defined them. They both had stories, ambitions and struggles that deserved to be heard. One of the things that stood out to me throughout the series was how women were treated. Women were largely seen as people whose main purpose was marriage. From childhood, girls were prepared for their future homes rather than being encouraged to think about what they wanted for themselves.
Their choices were limited, and their lives were often controlled by men.
This made Charlotte's character even more interesting to me. She was not afraid to ask questions, challenge situations she did not understand and fight for what she believed in.
