Bring on the rainy season! The hot summer is killing us!

Summers are always a bit of a drag but in Chiang Mai the hot summer combined with the dry of the burning season can lead to some truly miserable weather that while it looks really dry when you are there, the aerial view looks even more dire.
This was the past week's run and you can just tell from that satellite view that this is seriously dry ground. It was almost "crunchy" to be running on it and with very little in the way of sun cover due to it being mostly farmland.
These runs can be a bit dangerous, but the Hares put in a rest stop with shade, water, and if you are daring enough, ice cold beer for your sweaty refreshment along the way.
When you are on these paths it is kind of easy to understand how it is that fires get out of control out here in the farmlands and jungle of Thailand. There is just nothing to stop it if it starts to happen and I am surprised that it doesn't happen more often than it does. When fires start to blaze out of control in the North, they normally don't even try to fight it but instead will look at the direction that it is traveling and then will form a "break" and just accept that everything up to that point is going to burn to the ground.
Rainy season will be upon us soon, and things will change a great deal when that time comes. Then, everything will be wet and potentially quite muddy. It might seem strange to say that I prefer that, but I prefer that.
We trudge on anyway though and nothing will stop us. Other than during Covid when we were forbidden from getting together, the Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers hasn't missed a week of gathering in more than 20 years. We aren't going to stop now just because it is quite hot and dry.
While these runs can seem really tough when we are doing them, the reward at the end when the sun is fading away and it is cooling down dramatically, it kind of makes it all worthwhile. You get to sit in a chair or maybe on a giant block of ice, and drink beers with some genuinely awesome people. This is why I make a point to always go to the meetups every week, sometimes multiple times a week.
