Urban "Live Hare" run just took place

As our numbers dwindle it is starting to look unfortunately like we might have to take a week off here and there. As it is right now the same half-dozen people are making almost all of the trails for us these days and very few new people step up to help out by replacing their ranks.
But we did end up having a "live hare" event this past week and this was only because of the fact that nobody had time to prepare a proper trail.
This is a different kind of event and it can be a lot of fun but the person who is administering it needs to be extremely familiar with the area that it is taking place in.
A Live Hare event is very different from a normal Hash event because normally the Hares will spend a few days or even weeks organizing a trail in the jungle with turns and checkmarks that indicate the trail then they sit back at camp while the rest of us go out and figure out how to return. For the most part the trails go off without a hitch because almost everyone that comes along knows how these things work.
In a Live Hare event the Hare runs off about 15 minutes before us and then sets the trail for us as we are also running. While it is very rare for the pack to ever catch up with the Hare that actually did happen this past week for one of our only members who is extremely fit and in his 20's, the jerk!
Much of this had to do with the fact that this was very flat, not very winding, and since we were surrounded by city on all sides, it was pretty evident where the trail was going. Not exactly the best environment for exploration but in my mind it certainly is a lot better than not having an event at all.
From the sky this looks like a park but what it actually is, is a neighborhood that is rather prestigious and all the nature has been preserved in some capacity. "Dyke Converter" was our Hare, and he has a house here, so while we probably normally would have raised some alarms from the home owners normally had we just gone over here without permission, we believe that he had a chat with the residents to let them know that they should expect 20 or so older people dressed like lunatics that are going to be running near or even on their property.
It all went down really well and we had a lot of laughs because about half of the pack missed the "On In" which is an indicator on the ground that lets you know that the trail is coming to an end and that you need to turn there.
Somehow, more than half of our members managed to walk right past this without noticing it. They were the walkers, so they were probably deep in conversation and barely exercising. We got them all back thankfully due to the very predictable landscape and they had actually started to loop back around for a second lap before one of the less stupid members of the pack realized that they were walking in giant circles.
Almost everyone on trail has a GPS phone so getting properly lost is pretty difficult to accomplish, especially here in the middle of the city.
Next week's runs are going to return to the jungle. This urban run was a last minute thing and "Dyke Converter" did extremely well considering that this was dumped on him at the last minute.
