Con la finalización de la Copa del Mundo, el fútbol de clubes volvió al primer plano, con el continente europeo preparándose para el inicio de la próxima temporada. Como viene siendo ya regular, la Premier League es la principal agitadora del mercado de fichajes veraniego, moviendo auténticas fortunas en cientos de altas y bajas, y aunque hay equipos que están llevando esto al límite, lo que ha hecho el Aston Villa a la fecha me parece realmente interesante.

El movimiento más sorprendente fue la salida de Morgan Rodgers al Chelsea, y aunque considero que es un buen jugador, muy desequilibrante por la banda y con un disparo lejano con comba difícil de atajar para cualquier arquero, los 137 millones que pagaron por su pase me parece una locura, convirtiéndose en el fichaje más caro del futbol británico. Otra pérdida muy dolorosa fue la salida de Youri Tielemans rumbo al Manchester United, quien pese al cartel que tiene en Inglaterra, solo supuso una suma de 41 millones posterior al pago de su cláusula de rescisión.

Estas salidas de jugadores claves en temporadas anteriores, ha suponido una revolución en club de Birmingham, quienes han apostado por jugadores que muchos categorizariamos como una apuesta arriesgada, pues ninguno de ellos esta consolidado en un equipo importante, e inclusive, uno de ellos es posiblemente una decepción absoluta de la temporada pasada. Este tipo de decisiones no es algo nuevo en el Aston Villa, pues recordemos que hace un par de años, ya habían apostado por un Marcus Rasford en horas bajas.

En la zona media, se reforzaron con Johan Mazambi, suizo de 20 años que brilló la temporada pasada en el Freiburg, donde jugando como media punta era la brújula ofensiva del equipo, sumando 7 goles y 6 asistencias. Los villanos pagaron 60 millones por su ficha, y gran parte de culpa tiene su excelente papel en el mundial, donde llegó a cuartos de final con Suiza, anotando 3 goles y dando 2 asistencias, y eso que se perdió los últimos dos juegos por molestias en su rodilla izquierda. Por último, llegó Leao Gomes de los Wolves, pero este jugador si no lo conozco mucho, por lo que hay que ver como se desenvuelve.

Después del pésimo inicio de la temporada anterior, donde llegaron a estar en el descenso luego de las primeras 5 jornadas, los villanos no quieren repetir ese error nuevamente, pues en un momento especifico a mitad de temporada, llegaron a luchar por la cima en la Premier League, desinflándose luego por la carga de minutos y la presión.

El objetivo de los pupilos de Emery para este año es tratar de seguir escalando puestos en la clasificatoria, y más allá de que realistamente no les alcanza para ser campeones, ya solo meterse en puestos de Champions League años consecutivos, es un logró importante. Con el traspié de los equipos llamados Big Six, hay clubes que quieren romper esa dinámica, y los de Birmingham son los principales candidatos para hacerlo.
