The help I received and passed on

Sometimes when we pray to God for favors, the favors we prayed for don't exactly come from the places we look and expect them to come from.

After I gained my admission in 2020, I gave the good news to my family and, by extension, to my aunty, who had told me to apply at the university I attended.

After multiple attempts on the senior school living certificate exam and the university entry exam, my aunty suggested I attempt the Federal University of Agricultural Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.

I tried once, and the second time I got the admission, and once I did, I traveled to the city of Abeokuta for the clearance and health screening exercise organized for entry-level students.

After the screening I went out in search of an apartment, and I found one not too long after I started. The only problem was I didn't have the full money, so I paid a deposit with the promise of sending the rest before I resumed.

I left for home and came back and found out that someone had forcefully opened the room and paid for it by giving it to someone else, so I had to beg a friend so let me stay at her before I got another place.

She graciously accepted and spoke with her roommate, who moved to her friend's place for a while. It turns out that this friend was someone my aunty had introduced me to the time I did my first entry exam at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.

Which meant we weren't so close, but she let me stay at hers, and at the end she was the one who informed me about the place I finally went, and this memory stuck with me since then.

So late last year after my graduation, a friend in my church spoke to me about her friend's younger brother, who had recently gotten an admission and needed a place to stay, and it reminded me about my own experience when I gained admission, and without thinking about it too much, I let the young man stay at my place for a while, and now he has gotten his own place.

During this time I also got to know of another 100-level guy who was locked out from his hostel, and I was moved to also take him in, and we became three in the room, all expenses on me without thinking too much about it.

So my response to help that guy was triggered by the hospitality someone showed me, and each time I see students who don't have their own space, I try to help in the little way I can because the good you put in the world has a way of coming back to you.

Thanks for stopping by. Image is mine.
