A legacy of honesty

There's a saying that your skill takes you to the top, but your character will keep you there.

Have you ever come across people who are exceptionally gifted at what they do, yet people don't want to work with them, and sometimes you wonder why?

Well, the reason is not far-fetched because a person's character tells you all you need to know about them, especially the character of honesty.

You see, I was listening to a popular real estate veteran in my country when he said there are a lot of ways an investor will test you to see whether you are after their money or you want to build something meaningful.

He further explained that some investors will spend money to verify whether you are genuinely interested in building something meaningful rather than just seeking their money.

For everyone who wants to build something meaningful, be it in relationships, finance, business, or whatever you are doing in this life, the foundation is honesty.

I heard a preacher once say he worked with a company where they can give you twenty thousand Nigerian naira for an errand of four hundred naira, and they sent him one such message one time, and when he came back with the change, the accountant said he should keep the money that they already signed out.

His response was that he had a God they will answer to, and incidentally, after he left the company, it went down about three months later, and the reason was because there was no honesty in the system because even the CEO was stealing from his own company.

I was once accused of theft somewhere I was working sometime ago, and it happened such that a company that was into the sales and repairs of computers just close by my office was moving, and the manager happened to be a friend of my boss, and they needed some assistance.

My boss sent me to offer them the help I could while they were at it, so I went, and in the process, a laptop, which was bought and returned by the customer because the laptop burnt, was stolen, and I was being used because I took a laptop bag, which I showed the manager.

Fortunately for me, I had told my dad and my guardian at the time, whom I was living with, and so when the founder said that the laptop was missing, they asked to investigate me, both my dad and the person I was staying with, when my defense was because I had told them about that day's event.

They later found the laptop because it turns out one of the security guys had taken it, and since the police were involved, they didn't want the drama and aftermath of whatever would transpire.

In the end, honesty can give you confidence and help you build structure in whatever you are doing, and you know your character of honesty will determine what people will say about you when you are not in the room and it is one of the best legacies you can give you children.

Thanks for stopping by.
