Christianity is not a “bread and butter” affair, it does not come cheap. Entrance into the kingdom of God often comes through tribulation. The three Hebrew children in Daniel 3: 16 - 18, for example, took a strong stand with God, trusting that He would deliver them from the fiery furnace. Even as young men, they displayed mature faith, standing absolutely for the God of Israel.
Likewise, in Philippians 1: 21, Paul expresses this same conviction: ”For to me, living means opportunities for Christ, and dying—well, that's better yet."
Paul’s perspective was formed by his understanding that life on earth is fleeting compared to eternity. Only those who see life from God’s perspective can boldly declare: “I will please God, no matter what comes.”
