Daughters Domestic Worker Resigns Due To HIV/AIDS

An interesting topic tonight that I thought was worth sharing because there is very little news these days about the state of HIV/AIDS in South Africa yet there is a high percentage of the population living with this disease. I have known so many people over the years who are no longer with us who have died of AIDS/TB/ Pneumonia and organ failure which are all symptoms of HIV/AIDS due to having no immune system.
This morning my daughter mentioned her domestic worker has handed in her notice and will no longer be working for her. The reason being she has full blown aids and needs treatment which will take time to recover from depending on her condition. For those that know you do not die from AIDS, but normally from other side effects due to a depleted immune system. If left untreated your life expectancy is around 3 years.
These days with modern medicines you do not normally hear about people dying from AIDS like we used to in the past. I can recall many workers who were nicknamed "slow punctures" by fellow workers dying off on regular intervals.
Severe weight loss and an immune system will see people end up with Tuberculosis or some other dreadful illness just wither away and never be seen again. When my daughter mentioned her employee was severely ill with AIDS her not coming to work is a blessing in disguise.
The crazy part is this AIDS becoming fully blown is down to either her or her son selling her medication. You would not know they had AIDS when taking the medication as it suppresses the disease yet roughly 20% of the population has AIDS and is the highest in the world. I would say that these figures are probably not accurate and like the unemployment figures have been adjusted to look better than they actually are. South Africa accounts for more than 50% of all those with HIV in the world.
In the past I have paid peoples salaries who were suspected of having AIDS out of my own pocket so they do not come to work. If they are on medication then that is a different story, but many are not and this brings in a whole lot of trouble as we had an employee with TB at work.
The problem lies in education or should I say the lack of it and the tribal customs of the indigenous people. The open borders with many migrating from other countries like mine workers and the disease just spreads. If there were no anti viral medicines to contain the AIDS virus then the country would look a whole lot different with far less people and unemployment stats would not be so high. Imagine if there were no medicine or treatment for AIDS how dire things would be in SA or Southern Sahara Africa.

Our idiot State President Jacob Zuma when he was in charge had sex with a 31 year old family friend without protection. When asked about being responsible and preventing AIDS his answer summed up the ignorance of the entire country. He showered afterwards so according to himself and many others he believes he has no threat of contracting AIDS. It is this type pf misinformation that impacts negatively on the population because he was their leader and they believed him.

Just to give you some context these figures are from 2023 and are estimated which again does not give the full story and would estimate these figures are the best case scenario types and not the true figures. The "official" stats have an average of 300 people dying daily from these two diseases which does not take into account other causes like pneumonia and organ failure which is also a symptom of AIDS. AIDS is still in the top 3 nationally for cause of death even with the anti viral program in place so these statistics do not tell the full story and overall it is still very bad.
