Hello!

My greeting for Wednesday!

Whenever I go to Havana and pass by Prado Street at any of its entrances, a postcard or a leaflet comes to mind

, as they usually call that type of support to promote an exhibition of plastic arts.

What stuck in my memory on that piece of cardboard was the text: brief and simple, which proudly reaffirmed: Old, but Havana!

A slogan that condensed the pride and sense of belonging of the city dwellers in the founding part of the capital of all Cubans.

Prado Street, which runs from the Havana boardwalk to the Fuente de la India, is a natural border between the Centro Habana municipality and that of Old Havana. That's what I feel when I disembark from some transport and cross Fraternity Park; Taking Prado, I pass in front of the monumental and majestic Capitol. I also cross a corner of the famous Central Park and enter the labyrinth of narrow streets of the old city.

Today I felt the desire to take a look, at the pace of someone who is not in much of a hurry, along the port avenue. Therefore, sheltered by the wide and powerful portal of the Arte Universal building and going down all of Obispo, I arrived at the old Plaza de Armas, surrounded by emblematic buildings such as the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, the Palacio del Segundo Cabo, the Castillo de la Fuerza and the architectural jewel of the Templete. I went out onto the double lane of the port avenue, always having the spectacle in front of me.

There to my right, you to the left of the military enclave, the Christ of the Bay shines in the morning atmosphere while the view is lost looking for the town of Regla on the other shore.

This walk is really a reunion with the environment, because here, except for the shore fishermen who, from the wide and low walls of the Rada pier, dedicated to extracting food from the waters, things do not change much.

It is true that there are some things that, due to not paying attention to them on other visits, now seem new to me, such as the modest little park of the Samuray, a Japanese character who, on an embassy mission to Spain, stopped in the city, being back in the 16th century the first Japanese to set foot on the island's land.

I was impressed again by the classic sculpture that represents Poseidon, god of the seas and the oceans, with a characteristic trident in his left hand.

It is also very exciting for me, as I advance towards the mouth of the bay, and while I enjoy the colonial architecture of many buildings, tree-lined parks and environmental sculptures on the wide sidewalks of the port avenue, to know that I am approaching the Castillo de la Punta. One step further, the real Malecón, looking at the North Sea, the open sea.

I decided to walk there and, when I arrived, there were also fishermen. A fresh, decontaminated air hit my entire body, and my breathing changed its rhythm. My lungs filtered the air, grateful for its purity and its salty smell.

Here, leaning on the wall where the living sea and the tamed waters of the bay greet each other and constantly mix, I remain entranced by the wonderful view of the legendary Castle of the Three Kings of Morro, or simply el Morro.

A rough wave splashed over my body, and the memory of his face and his smile splashed my memories and made me He drew his restless body sitting on the wall, with the history and the oldest fortress in Cuba in the background.

Thank you for accompanying me on this Wednesday walk, and I'll wait for you on the next one.

Bye and see you.

VERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL

¡>Hola!
