Every now and then, a girl needs to read a good romance novel. Without all the complications, without unnecessary drama… just entertainment, romance, and passion. A gallant gentleman winning over a beautiful maiden. The basics. The essentials.
And that’s exactly what I found in Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas , the first book in the Wallflowers series. I was only going to read the first one this season… but, minor spoiler: I read all five books in a week.
Imagine Bridgerton vibes, but set in the Victorian era. Each book tells a different story, but all the characters are interconnected, which makes the whole experience feel even more special. It’s a light, simple narrative, but incredibly addictive. I didn’t realize how much I needed this series until I finished the first book… in less than 24 hours.
Una chica necesita leer un buen libro de romance cada cierto tiempo. Sin tantos enredos, sin drama innecesario… solo entretenimiento, romance y pasión. Un galante caballero conquistando a una hermosa doncella. Lo básico. Lo necesario.
Y eso lo conseguí con Secretos de una noche de verano de Lisa Kleypas , el primero de la saga Wallflowers . Solo iba a leer el primero en esta temporada… pero, pequeño spoiler: en una semana me leí los cinco libros.
Imagínate vibes de Bridgerton, pero en época victoriana. Cada libro cuenta una historia distinta, pero todos los personajes están entrelazados, lo que hace que todo se sienta aún más especial. Es una narrativa ligera, sencilla, pero increíblemente adictiva. No sabía que necesitaba tanto esta saga hasta que terminé el primer libro… en menos de 24 horas.

How sad to think that a woman’s worth could be reduced solely to her ability to find a husband.
Cansadas de la situación, de la invisibilidad, de ser descartadas una y otra vez, finalmente deciden hablar entre ellas. Y lo que empieza como una simple conversación… se convierte en algo mucho más importante. Descubren que se agradan, que se entienden, que comparten la misma herida.
Y así, estas chicas ignoradas por la sociedad encuentran algo incluso más poderoso que el amor romántico: la amistad. En ese pequeño círculo, en esa mesa olvidada, nace un vínculo que les da fuerza, apoyo y, por supuesto, una idea bastante clara: si nadie va a ayudarlas, entonces ellas mismas se conseguirán marido.
Una cita del libro es: “Annabelle estaba furiosa por la situación en la que se encontraban e, incluso, consigo misma por no haber sido capaz de encontrar todavía un marido” . Y es imposible no sentir un pequeño nudo en el pecho al leer eso. Qué triste pensar que el valor de una mujer pudiera resumirse únicamente en su capacidad de conseguir un esposo.
