As soldiers of Christ, we must endure trials and toughen ourselves spiritually. Regardless of circumstances, we must keep forging ahead, this is what separates mature believers from those still growing in faith.
Paul likens this attitude to that of an athlete: "Like an athlete I punish my body, treating it roughly, training it to do what it should, not what it wants to. Otherwise I fear that after enlisting others for the race, I myself might be declared unfit and ordered to stand aside" [1 Corinthians 9: 27].
We must control the flesh so it does not control us. At the same time, we must cultivate unshakeable conviction, so we can boldly declare, like Paul: “Nothing can separate me from the love of God.” With this mindset, we are empowered to face life’s trials and receive God’s help in every situation.
