I recently stumbled across this one news clip about the Siders family in Ohio. In case you don't know about them, you can read all about them in [this link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siderscase) to the Wikipedia.
Now, I'm all on board with the press and the media exposing the adults in this family for treating the kids in it so despicably. I really want to see justice served and for the perpetrators in this family to be punished. However, where I really begin to have a problem is when the news media obsessively focuses on the fact that a few women in this family got married at 15 years old to 18- and 19-year-old men. I agree that the public has the right to know about all the atrocities that have gone on within the Sider family involving small children. However, when these news reporters make a fuss about two women having gotten married at the age of 15 to 18- and 19-year-old men, it's almost as though they're attempting to indoctrinate parents to believe that if they allow their 15-year-old daughters to wed an adult man even slightly above the legal age of majority, this is the kind of family into which they're going to marry.
It's as though these so-called journalists are manipulating the fears and sexual insecurities of their viewers to spread panic everywhere over teenage minors being allowed to get legally married. In other words, it's as though they are spewing propaganda, and that, to me, is not professional journalism.
A blanket ban against teenage minors getting married is not going to stop families like the Siders from engaging in the kind of heinous crimes that they do. There have been many teenage minors that have married into good families and have lived long, prosperous lives with their spouses, even in situations in which such marriages involved a significant age gap.
We must not succumb to all the fear and panic that the American press and the American media have bestowed upon us regarding the topic of teenage marriage. They are only looking to get readers and Nielsen ratings rather than to inform the public in an accurate and impartial manner.
1. The Comments Section To The News Clip Regarding The Siders
Self-proclaimed child advocates are having a love fest of collective stupidity in the comments section to the above news clip. Instead of focusing on the actual issues at hand, they narrow their focus down to whether or not teenage minors should be allowed to get married anywhere in the United States.
A YouTuber that goes by the user name of @faithjoe99 is a good example of someone who thinks with her butt instead of her brain. (Note - I'm not sure if this YouTuber is a man or a woman, but I will presume that she is a woman.) In her post in the comments section to the news clip above, she states:

This should be connecting some dots.. what they should do is raise the age of consent to 18 years old to prevent teens taking advantage of one another. I know another person who was 20 dating a 17 year old which can seem okay at first but just because the older was held back in highschool doesn’t mean she should have dated a minor in senior year, like they could have waited till the other was 18 or 19 so it seemed a bit weird to me. The younger partner ended up having to move away to a different state anyway though.
Geez, YouTuber @faithjoe99. How your kind always love the words "creep," "creepy," and "creeping" when you can't think of any other words to describe something of which you disapprove. It appears that you expect for every man to be a Macaulay-Culkin/Tony-Danza centaur, or he simply doesn't fit into your make-believe world of age-appropriate perfection and wholesome purity.
Well, YouTuber @faithjoe99. I hate to rain on your parade. On the other hand, actually, I love raining on your parade, because nobody appointed you as the arbiter of moral perfection. If a man over 30 years old wishes to date an 18-year-old woman, he doesn't need your seal of approval; and he couldn't care less about your opinion of him. Why don't you live your own life and let him live his? You both would never be friends anyway, so what does it even matter to you?
The reason that age-gap couples have differences in life experience is because of this thing called hypergamy. However, YouTuber @faithjoe99, assuming that you're a woman, you are probably all on board with hypergamy. If it benefits you, then somehow you make yourself the exception to your make-believe rule. It's clearly a double standard on your part.

The reason that there are more men over 40 getting involved with women more than 15 years their junior is because there are more men over 40 who have never been in a relationship before than in years past. Therefore, they're going to find more in common with younger women whose experience in the dating scene is closer to theirs than they will with women their own age.
If a man is 42 years old and he has never been in the arms of a woman, he's not going to find the bluebird of happiness by hooking up with a 35-year-old single mother of three kids by three different fathers. Therefore, it would only seem logical that he would gravitate toward someone noticeably younger than him. Moreover, perhaps he may wish to start a family. A middle-aged woman is not readily going to be able to give him children.
Back in the 1990s, there was a trend of American men in their fifties and older marrying Russian brides barely in their twenties, and the United States survived it. These couples were happy, and they started families. In the real world, the heart does what it wants rather than what society expects it to do.
Of course, YouTuber @faithjoe99, what do you care about any of these facts? As long as you get to live in your white-picket-fence fantasy world, you'll be happy about it even at the expense of other people's happiness. What a dunce you are.
YouTuber @faithjoe99? Merely because an 18- or 19-year-old man marries a teenage minor, it doesn't mean that her head is going to fall off. I used to work with a woman so many years ago whose mother was 15 years old and whose father was 18 years old when her parents got married. YouTuber @faithjoe99? If you think that 20 years old is too old for a 17-year-old, then you obviously have lived a very sheltered life. When I was in high school, I had a 17-year-old female friend who admitted to me that she would like to date a 25-year-old man. This girl had a very high IQ, and she was a good student. I had no problem with her choices to go older. It was what she wanted, and I respected her decisions.

A YouTuber who goes by the user name of @nickatnight0821 is an extremely clueless idiot on the topic of teenage marriage. The fact alone that he or she cannot differentiate between teenage marriage and child marriage indicates so on its face. In the comments section to the above news clip, YouTuber @nickatnight0821 posts:

YouTuber @nickatnight0821? Duhhhhh!!!!! According to the American Civil Liberties Union ("A.C.L.U."), allowing teenage minors to get married through the proper channels secures their bodily autonomy. American statutory-rape laws are the most archaic and outdated laws on the entire planet. What you perceive to be loopholes in the marriage laws for teenage minors are really safeguards in them to keep police officers from abusing their power and authority against them and their significant others, particularly when there is an age gap.
Teenage marriage is not state-sponsored child sex trafficking, because teenage sex and teenage relationships are not forms of child molestation whether they be intra-generational or inter-generational. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that much out.
For you to make that same statement, YouTuber @nickatnight0821, demonstrates that you either have Pedophile-Panic Derangement Syndrome or what can be best described as Pedophile-Themed Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder by proxy ("POCD by proxy"). You're not in touch with all of your faculties. Therefore, why should anyone take anything you say seriously?
And, yes, I can understand that the American Psychiatric Association ("A. P. A.") does not yet recognize these same two mental conditions as psychiatric disorders. However, give it some time, and eventually they will add them to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

First of all, YouTuber @NestosCologneFlavoredBread, teenage marriage is not child marriage. If you're describing small children under 11 years of age getting legally married here in the United States, then I'm completely on board with your stance. However, if you are stating that the English Common Law that sets 12 years old as the age floor for girls and 14 years old as the age floor for boys for matrimony should be eradicated, then you couldn't be any more wrong than you are.
Second of all, if anything is medieval in nature, it's American statutory-rape laws that are so inasmuch as these laws assume that teenage sex doesn't exist and that teenage minors are all celibate in the same way that prepubescent children under 11 years old are. Not only do these same laws take agency away from teenage minors, but they also undermine parental authority in situations in which the parents do not wish to press charges against their underage daughter's older boyfriend.
Let's not forget that statutory-rape laws have existed for close to a millennium, and their main objectives have gotten lost in translation throughout the years. While I agree that no child should be having sex at 7 years old, I also disagree that the only solution to a girl getting pregnant at 13 or 14 years old from an age-gap relationship is to send the boyfriend to prison and force him to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Abolishing teenage marriage would provide additional power to the police state for the authorities to abuse. As I must stress again and again, the fate of teenage marriage should be placed in the hands of voters rather than in the hands of elected officials. In that manner, everyone comes out of this controversy a happy camper.
There are idiots claiming that teenage marriage can become a form of legalized pedophilia when one spouse is a teenage minor and the other spouse is an adult. Mendacious pedo-shaming of young adult men in these types of marriages can be found everywhere in the comments section to the news clip above. Even the wood-chipper enthusiasts are having their fun and games in that same comments section.
Meanwhile, the United States has an epidemic of teenage girls that are still minors that are suffering violent, brutal, forcible rapes at the hands of boys their own age who are also minors. However, these cases are getting comparatively lower attention than all the hype over teenage minors getting legally married here in our nation. As Americans, we need to reevaluate where our priorities lie with topics of nationwide concern.
2. The Underage Victims Of Jesse Mack Butler
Elected officials in Oklahoma are obsessing over stopping girls from getting married at 14 or 15 years old, especially to older men. However, when Jesse Mack Butler was a minor, he raped more than one teenage high-school girl and yet the police and the court system there in Oklahoma have continued to coddle him as much as they can.
One of Mr. Butler's victims was brave enough to appear on camera nationwide and give her side of the story. Below is a news clip containing that same interview.

Kate Sweeney fell victim to an atrocious rape when she was underage. However, was her attacker an older man? No, he was her age. However, somehow all these know-it-alls and self-righteous do-gooders don't seem to place very much importance on her case merely because the boy who victimized her was the same age as she was when he raped her and she was still a minor. That boy was Jesse Mack Butler
Being underage and the same age as his victim should not constitute a get-out-of-jail-free card for any male teenage minor who commits such a barbaric act against a young girl. Unfortunately, both the police and the court system in Oklahoma have failed Ms. Sweeney terribly. Even a 14-year-old girl whom a 35-year-old man blew a kiss at would have received better treatment from the police and the court system there in Oklahoma than Ms. Sweeney did.
Elected officials in Oklahoma seem more concerned about a pregnant 14- or 15-year-old girl agreeing to marry the 21- or 22-year-old father of her baby to steer him clear of a frivolous and malicious statutory-rape charge than they are about victims like Ms. Sweeney who actually suffered sexual violence at the hands of a boy the same age as her that she trusted as her boyfriend. It makes absolutely no sense at all.
Ms. Sweeney was only 16 years old when Mr. Butler raped her. Unfortunately, somehow the Oklahoma authorities and court officials believe that her situation was no big deal merely because her assailant was on the same side of the legal age line as she was at the time of the rape. It strongly reminds me of what happened to the late Aubreigh Wyatt.
It is good that Ms. Sweeney is resorting to civil litigation to seek some kind of justice against Mr. Butler. American courts do treat civil actions separately from criminal indictments; and instead of the standard of finding someone guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, the outcome of a civil trial is based upon the preponderance of the evidence.
All of us, regardless of whether you are a man or a woman, never wish to fall victim to a violent rape as Ms. Sweeney did. The elephant in the room here is that there are many teenage girls that don't wish to be labeled as rape victims merely because their adult boyfriends are older than perhaps what society approves of, whereas you have true victims like Ms. Sweeney who fight fiercely to get the justice they so deserve against their attackers and their cases still don't get enough attention. Our nation should not be this way.
