La pregunta me había estado rebotando dentro de la cabeza ¿Por qué el segunda base venezolano Luis Arráez en la cuarta posición de la alineación de los Filis? Y la respuesta me llegó en forma de tweet leído en la autoría de Sarah Lang, la numeróloga de la MLB, a quien seguimos fervientemente. Cualquiera pensaría -entre quienes conozcan el deporte- que Arráez es un natural primer bate. Pero ¿Saben quien ha liderado la estadística de promedio de bateo llamada "RISP" o AVE con hombres en posición anotadora desde 2020? Acá también, un fanático asiduo del deporte respondería automáticamente: Freddie Freeman, Yordan Álvarez, Trea Turner o Bobby Witt Jr., pero no...la respuesta es Luis "La regadera" Arráez con RISP AVE .328. Y entonces, todo adquiere sentido con la actualidad. El mánager de los cuáqueros Don Mattingly, vio una oportunidad en esa estadística y en vez de desperdiciar al hombre colocándolo como primer bate, pensó sería más productivo remolcando hombres desde la 4ta. posición. Problema para remolcar carreras dentro de los Filis, resuelto.

But do you know who has led the majors in batting average with RISP since 2020? A die-hard fan would automatically guess Freddie Freeman, Yordan Alvarez, Trea Turner, or Bobby Witt Jr., but nope... the answer is Luis "The Sprinkler" Arráez. And right there, everything clicks with the current strategy. The Phils' skipper, Don Mattingly, saw a golden opportunity in that metric. Instead of wasting him at the top of the order, he figured Arráez would be way more productive driving guys in from the four-hole. Just like that, the Phillies' clutch-hitting problem is solved.

Los Bravos de Atlanta de visita en el Citizens Bank Park para una serie de infarto entre el líder de la división este de la Liga Nacional contra su más inmediato perseguidor Filis de Filadelfia. Y aunque Ronald Acuña Jr. botó un dantesco cuadrangular número 15 de la temporada, a 450 pies del plato, fue Luis Arráez quien ayudo a los Filis a mantenerse a medio juego del primer comodín de la Nacional, en manos de los Cachorros. En el propio primer episodio, con dos hombres en posición de anotar, largó una l��nea de hit por encima del segunda base. Casualmente Ronald la capturó corriendo hacia adelante y casi la agarra de aire, pero la pelota hizo "short bound" y sólo Kyle Schwarber pudo anotar quedando Trea Turner anclado en tercera. A la postre, los Filis anotaron tres más para llevarse el triunfo por 4 carreras a 2 y acercarse a los Bravos a 4 juegos de la punta. Hoy el último juego de la serie.

Even though Ronald Acuña Jr. crushed a dantesco 450-foot moonshot for his 15th big fly of the season, it was Luis Arráez who helped the Phils stay within a half-game of the Cubs for the top National League Wild Card spot. In the very first frame, with two ducks on the pond, he laced a line-drive single right over the second baseman. Coincidentally, Ronald tracked it down charging in and almost made a lunging catch, but the ball short-hopped him, allowing only Kyle Schwarber to cross the dish while Trea Turner held up at third. Ultimately, the Phils tacked on three more to lock down a 4-2 victory and shave the Braves' division lead down to 4 games, setting up today's series finale.

La historia de Oleivis Basabe es de libro de cuentos, como un homenaje a la adversidad. El hombre fue subido en 2023 a las Grandes Ligas por los Rays de Tampa en Agosto, como premio por su desempeño en las menores. Pero al despuntar la 2024 no hizo el equipo en primavera y tuvo que bajar de nuevo a las menores. En ese interín le fue mal a inicios de 2025 y fue designado para asignación, reclamado entonces por los Gigantes de San Francisco quienes le dieron contrato en el "Rivers Cats" de Sacramento, su sucursal en las menores. De nuevo, le fue mal y lo colocaron en waivers de las menores donde ningún otro equipo le reclamó, conservando la paciencia los Gigantes esperaron. Y esa paciencia se vio recompensada en Julio cuando fue subido al equipo grande. Y el muchacho está respondiendo, como ayer, cuando la botó por 5ta vez, con dos hombres en base para ayudar al triunfo anaranjado por 9 carreras a 5, frente a los Mets de Nueva York ¿No es lindo el béisbol?

The man got his cup of coffee back in August 2023 when the Tampa Bay Rays called him up as a reward for raking in the minors. But when the 2024 campaign rolled around, he failed to break camp with the big league club and got optioned back down to the farm. To make matters worse, he scuffled badly at the start of 2025 and was designated for assignment, eventually being claimed off waivers by the San Francisco Giants, who stashed him with their Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats. Once again, he hit a rough patch and cleared outright waivers after going unclaimed, but the Giants stayed patient. That patience paid off big time this past July when he got the call back up to the show. And the kid is absolutely delivering, just like yesterday when he launched his 5th big fly of the year, a three-run bomb that fueled a 9-5 victory for the Orange and Black over the New York Mets. How can you not be romantic about baseball?

Nada como dos conjuntos necesitados de triunfos, para tener una serie de altos kilates. Por un lado, los Astros de Houston, quienes necesitan poner tierra de por medio con los Rangers de Texas en la lucha por el liderazgo del oeste de la Americana. Por el otro, los DiamondBacks de Arizona, quienes necesitan dar alcance en el tercer comodín de la liga a los Padres de San Diego. ¿Saben cuántas veces los ofidios han remontado un juego para ganar en 2026?
