Había extrañado la desaparición de Eugenio "Geno" Suárez en la alineación de los Rojos de Cincinnati, hace un par de días. Luego, nos enteramos por los medios de comunicación de la solicitud de permiso con el fin de atender la entrevista de naturalización como ciudadano estadounidense y debido a ello su ausencia. Bien, el hombre regresó a la alineación de los chicos de Ohio con nueva nacionalidad ayer y lo hizo por la puerta grande. No contento con ello, en el noveno episodio logró la hazaña: otro jonrón para dejar en el terreno a los Tigres de Detroit por marcador de 7-6. Revisen los años en que algo así pasó: 1924, 1938, 1960, 1980 y 1991. Es decir, no había sucedido en lo que va de siglo y 35 años debieron transcurrir desde la última vez. Y es que su balance de ganados y perdidos están entre los mejores dos de la MLB, desde la fecha límite de cambios. Y andan por ahí amargando vidas. Los Gigantes de San Francisco de visita en Queens, sufrieron la ofensiva neoyorquina. Uno de los que contribuyó a la felpa de 10 carreras a 6, fue el careta venezolano Francisco Álvarez, quien a la altura del 2do. acto no perdonó un pitcheo franco por el medio del plato y la mandó a volar. Pero anda caliente con el bate y en el octavo repitió la dosis, constituyendo los cuadrangulares 14 y 15 de la campaña. Si consideramos más de 30 partidos fuera de la alineación por lesión, no es nada despreciable para él, haber arribado a esas cifras. ¿Qué habría pasado con los Mets, de no haber tenido tan mala suerte en la zafra? Bueno, esto es un negocio y de preguntas no se vive.
