Hace ya varios días mi esposa (@zullyscott) y yo viajamos a la isla de Margarita por algunos asuntos que para efectos de esta publicación son irrelevantes. A modo de preámbulo debo confesar dos cosas, por un lado, esta visita ha sido mi segunda vez en Nueva Esparta y por otro lado debo decir que he regresado aún más enamorado de la isla.

También les estaré contando algunas anécdotas del viaje y estaré develando el por qué digo que he regresado a mi tierra natal (Barquisimeto) enamorado de la isla. Así que comencemos sin demasiadas pretensiones esta línea editorial sobre el viaje a la isla de Margarita.
El pasado martes 28 de julio llegábamos al aeropuerto internacional “General de División Jacinto Lara” al oeste de Barquisimeto a eso de las 08:30 AM, ya que como bien es sabido, en vuelos nacionales hay que estar 2 horas antes del vuelo para confirmar los pasajes y hacer el chequeo correspondiente antes de abordar el avión.
Todo fluyó con total normalidad y como es costumbre esperar el avión es un tedio o lo es para mí que detesto esperar. Lo cierto es que a las 10:10 AM estábamos abordando el avión, en este caso un Embraer 190 de Conviasa. Según las indicaciones de la chica de sobrecargo estaríamos volando a unos 33.000 pies de altura o lo que serían unos 10 kilómetros de altitud aproximadamente.
Tras una hora de vuelo, a eso de las 11:35 minutos aproximadamente estábamos aterrizando en la isla de Margarita. Al bajar del avión el calor caribeño y el sol casi en su cenit nos dan la bienvenida. Esperamos nuestro equipaje y afortunadamente nos esperaban fuera para trasladarnos hasta el lugar donde nos quedariamos por los siguientes 7 días, por lo que apenas dimos unos pasos fuera del aeropuerto internacional del caribe Santiago Mariño nos dirigimos inmediatamente a nuestro destino dentro de la isla.
Hasta este punto no hay mucho más que contar de nuestro viaje y primeros momentos en la isla más allá de descansar por la tarde y prepararnos para las próximas jornadas y una agenda un poco apretada. Pues, a pesar que suene un viaje de vacaciones no lo fue del todo, sin embargo pudimos visitar hermosos lugares, conocer y compartir con personas maravillosas y conocer sitios de la isla que no conocíamos. Así que querido lector, te invito a que me acompañes a esta serie de publicaciones y a mirar la isla de Margarita a través de mi experiencia.

A few days ago, my wife (@zullyscott) and I traveled to Margarita Island for some reasons that are irrelevant to this post. By way of introduction, I must confess two things: first, this was my second visit to Nueva Esparta, and second, I’ve returned even more in love with the island.

I’ll also be sharing some anecdotes from the trip and revealing why I say I’ve returned to my hometown (Barquisimeto) in love with the island. So, without further ado, let’s begin this series of posts about the trip to Margarita Island.
Last Tuesday, July 28, we arrived at the “General de División Jacinto Lara” International Airport, west of Barquisimeto, at around 8:30 a.m., since, as is well known, on domestic flights you have to be there two hours before departure to check in and go through security before boarding the plane.
Everything went smoothly, and as is usually the case, waiting for the plane is a drag—or at least it is for me, since I hate waiting. The fact is that by 10:10 a.m. we were boarding the plane, in this case a Conviasa Embraer 190. According to the flight attendant, we would be flying at an altitude of about 33,000 feet—which is approximately 10 kilometers.
After an hour’s flight, at around 11:35 a.m., we were landing on Margarita Island. As we stepped off the plane, the Caribbean heat and the sun, nearly at its zenith, welcomed us. We waited for our luggage, and fortunately, our ride was waiting outside to take us to where we’d be staying for the next seven days; so as soon as we took a few steps outside the Santiago Mariño Caribbean International Airport, we headed straight to our destination on the island.
At this point, there isn’t much more to say about our trip and our first moments on the island beyond relaxing in the afternoon and getting ready for the days ahead and a somewhat packed schedule. Well, even though it sounds like a vacation, it wasn’t entirely one; however, we were able to visit beautiful places, meet and spend time with wonderful people, and discover parts of the island we hadn’t seen before. So, dear reader, I invite you to join me in this series of posts and see Margarita Island through my eyes.
