16.6 Mile Group Ride, The Bionic Buck, Brunch, Vacuum Break, Last Red Potatoes Dug - Friday

5:15 am yesterday I was headed to Wandermere for the group ride. It was quite dark and I was very happy I had the headlight for my bike.

It was just 6 of us and we rode a good pace the whole time. This pic was taken by Kyle. I am in the blue jersey. This was taken about a mile before we saw the buck.

We were all heading up the Colbert hill from the little Spokane and a nice sized buck, about a 5 point, was under some apple trees on the right side of the road. A car was behind us and went to drive around us. The buck flushed and ran up onto and across the road about 50 feet in front of us and the car going around ended up hitting the deer with its left front bumper and headlight. The buck spun around in the air and landed in the ditch on the left of the road. The car did not stop and kept going and the buck jumped up and bounded over the fence and into the field where we watched it run off, not looking hurt.

The ride went fast and I found myself rolling at speed with relative ease. It's super nice to be fast enough to keep up with everyone and I kinda have that in the back of my head for each group ride, "keep up".

We stood and talked a bit after we got back to the start at Thomas Hammer. @stryeyz and I passed each other as we were driving, she to work and me home.

Hitting power PRs on many rides now shows my increasing fitness on the bike.

We had couples mid morning which went okay then after @stryeyz and I went to brunch at Frank's Diner which is in an old rail car. Super good food which I took home a bit of my leftovers the boys shared.

After eating I stopped at my client's house and got the vacuum break installed for the irrigation system. It is an anti-siphon as it inserts air into the line if the pressure falls on the supply side. The cheaper version of a check valve.

The greenhouse is still producing well and I got a nice batch of cucumbers.

The last of the red Nordland potatoes are dug. I ended up loosing a good number of spuds to an animal eating on them in the end row closest to the fence but still had three 50 foot rows that were largely untouched. I will weigh all the bags once these are bagged to find my total for the year.

39F this morning... Today we go through R's clothes. It will be a bit of a pain to dig them all out of his room but we have to sort out the too small ones to get rid of. J's clothes will then be next as many of his too small will go to R. Then we will know just how much more we need to get each of them. More garden work and then it is time to start dealing with the house clutter as well as on the property. Too many untouched projects need to be dealt with, garbage piled for a dump run, and general organization.

Just 588 miles to hit my year goal of 2500. Of the 1900 miles I rode 1283 on the old bike and 332 on my new bike. The balance has been on my mtn bike or trainer.
