The Healing Craze
Photo of My propiety
Hello, friends of Holus Lotus. As usual, I’m sharing a reflective piece on what I see as the new ‘craze’ for healing, where everything is quick and there aren’t so many processes to go through.
We’re often told that to heal, we must make declarations, visualise and smile so that the universe hears us and knows how to treat us, but true healing goes much deeper; there are no shortcuts, just a steady path to follow, along which we’ll often realise that we, too, have caused a great deal of harm.
And it’s worrying to see how this is increasingly being romanticised on social media, where anyone will tell you that “it saves you two years of therapy in 5 minutes”.
By making us believe that healing is easy, comfortable and quick, when nothing could be further from the truth – because in reality it is uncomfortable, confusing and forces us to confront ourselves head-on.
That is why professional support is often needed during these processes.

We all need to heal, but not all of us are willing to pay the price One of the things I started to notice whilst I was in therapy was that some people told me, ‘Since you’ve been seeing a psychologist, you’ve changed a lot,’ and that’s certainly true. Of course, therapy on its own doesn’t work miracles; it’s up to you to make it work
Because you start to see things as they really are and stop making excuses, playing the victim and blaming yourself, so you can start setting boundaries and teaching people how to treat you.
But was it easy, comfortable and quick?
Not at all, because I had to go through a rather uncomfortable process of self-reflection where there was no anaesthetic, but plenty of therapeutic support, during which I took my time to take it all in, reflect and then decide to let go of those masks that were causing me so much harm.
The humility of looking at oneself Sometimes we think life is unfair to us and we don’t stop to look at ourselves, and for me this was one of the hardest things
Because sometimes we believe we’re acting out of kindness and with the best of intentions, but in reality we’re acting in the hope of getting something in return, out of self-interest, and that’s how we cause a great deal of harm.
Accepting this was difficult, but viewing it with compassion healed me.
That’s why this new trend of ‘healing’ strikes a chord with me, because what it really seeks to do is numb the pain rather than resolve the conflict.
That’s why it’s not enough simply to go on a retreat in the mountains and meditate; it’s about learning to endure the discomfort of seeing yourself as you truly are, and from there, forgiving yourself so that you can integrate both your light and your shadows, and realise that this, too, is part of who you are.

Whilst we’re healing, making affirmations is valid, and visualisation is too, but let these practices lead us to action and not to the illusion of having healed.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post
Thank you very much for reading
