Just Chores and Mowing - August 24, 2026 @goldenoakfarm

Sunday night was an even worse night, up multiple times in the night and not out of bed until 6:30AM and only because the cat had nearly expired. Tom appeared because, while he has 10 motorized vehicles in his yard, only 1 is working safely enough to be driven. So he was borrowing my car. (The other vehicles will be slowly cycling through the garage where my #1 intern works…)
I got the parsley out of the dehydrator and it was ¾ of a quart. Then I got my post up and sat for a while. I made some breakfast and managed to get a load into the clothes washer as I had to do laundry.
Big garden
No one was coming on Monday but I did have an event in the afternoon. It was wicked foggy and that meant the grass wouldn’t dry out early. I HAD to mow the lawn and would have to wait for it to dry out.
So I called and cancelled for the event. Later I went out and got the kitchen cleaned up and kept the laundry going.
Small garden
I finally headed out around 10:45AM. The grass was some drier but I realized after my car had left I’d have to walk up to the barn to get the mowers. Sigh…
Can almost see the barn…
As usual the push mower wouldn’t start after the bagger filled and I had to empty it. So I did the best I could with the rider but the chute plugged up all too often. Then I took them back to the barn. I walked back and the mosquitoes didn’t find me until I was almost to the yard.
I got the chairs moved out of the driveway and under the trees and went in and got a shower.
New Herb garden
It was 2PM when I finished the shower. I sat down for a while then made a tomato sandwich for lunch and went to bed for a nap. I got up around 4:30PM and read for a while then found some supper.
It was to be a lovely cool night so the house was open and I was hoping for a decent night’s sleep.
On Tuesday my general helper will be out here from Boston and she will ride over with my #2 intern as the helper’s car is also going in the garage. I’m hoping to get at least 1 garden cleaned out and make a big start on that awful South Herb garden.
My helper friend will be here mid morning and I hope he manages to pick up the boots I ordered at the farm co-op. If he does, my son says he will get some weedwacking done.
My helper friend will have chores and errands and cleaning to do. I have to harvest the green beans and get them in the freezer. I also have to check the squash as it didn’t get done yesterday, and collect cukes for the jars in the fridge.
So another busy day…
