Loving You Enough to Let You Go: Run Free, My Love

Thank you for staying with me for as long as you could. We’ll sing 'Do You Want to Build a Snowman' again when we see each other. Mommy misses you terribly, but I'm so glad your pain is gone, I know you’re back to being my happy, jolly baby. Mommy is finally setting you free. Run free, my love, until we sing again.

First, I want to thank James @jamerussell for letting me know a community like this exists. Being here is like visiting a cemetery, it's a place where people will read your words, listen to you, and perhaps even see you ugly-bawl, but entirely without judgment. Just silence and support, like a long, warm embrace of condolence.

Do you find it difficult to visit the cemetery or mausoleum after a loved one passes away? I do.

Just recently my uncle died. Of course i attended his burial, but told him before sending him off that maybe it will take a couple of years before i visit him again. I don't know if we are the same, but for me, it takes a lot of strength to see them again, but in a very different place.

But no, I won't be talking about my uncle in this post. haven't found enough strength to talk about him just yet. I'm talking about my beloved first pet. I feel like finally paying her a visit after denying it for such as long time. She was actually buried in our backyard... a spot that I seldom visit despite it being within reach. It's not because I forgot her, but because, just like what i said, it takes a lot of courage to step onto their grave and see them again in that way.

Can AI explain grief? Definitely in technical terms, with self-help quotes, and maybe by recommending a book about recovering from grief. But do we really recover from losing a loved one? Certainly not. I read a book (forgot the title) but it said we don't learn to overcome grief, we just develop a routine to get used to the fact that they are no longer with us, and then we break down again when we remember them.

It's so difficult to talk about Ash. Through tears, we'd casually remember what a happy, obedient, and sweet dog she was. Our house was different without her. I remember writing about her last year and how I kept on blaming myself for her suffering. I still do now, but just recently, I brought her up again and my brother surprisingly scolded me, telling me, 'You don't have to ask her to stay for a while. She even spent Christmas with you. If she could, she'd still extend it until your birthday because she loves you more than anything else, and y'know that'. It felt like a knife was finally released from my chest, how dramatic, right? i know. But that is how I really felt.

It has been so difficult to celebrate my birthdays because she died in the same month. And my brother is right, if she could have, she'd have stayed until my birthday, but her body was already failing.

I am finally giving myself the grace to accept that a pet's life is relatively short and that they will almost certainly go before us. Maybe on my next birthday, it won't sting as much anymore. Maybe I'll tell myself my brother is right.. that if she could, she would extend her life just to stay with me. And yet, we don't really hold the length of our lives. it is not for us to decide.

So yeah, we accept it. Perhaps the reason we bury our loved ones in a cemetery is to remind us that we only pay a visit, we don't stay there. After a good cry, we go back home and live again.

Thank you for always patiently reading and listening. This means so much to me.

Not feeling well... but karaoke is life (Certified Asian Dog)

Ending this post by sharing a video that is so precious to me. I don't care if the quality isn't good,in this video, she's still alive and singing with me, tho this was her last singing session, so weak and frail and yet she just can't say no to Anna.😅
