[Witcher 3 & 4] It looks like this time the Polish studio wasn't lying through its teeth; they’ve genuinely improved how they manage the company, their people, and their tech projects (I know this from a friend who—like me—is a nerd, but unlike me, makes good money programming; when she commented on the news about the shift in work methods, she said it sounded like they’d previously been working in a pigsty). On the other hand, as Polish YouTuber UncleMroowa rightly pointed out, a company like Capcom had years to build a corporate culture and establish its own standards. CD Projekt Red, meanwhile, grew at breakneck speed because they got a hell of a lot of luck—sure, they made a great game, but plenty of developers have run their companies into the ground in similar situations, whereas the Poles pulled it off.
Currently, the console version of Witcher 4 is being developed alongside the PC version to avoid the kind of issues seen at the launch of CP2077. If they implement these new game development standards (which I mentioned at the start of the Witcher segment), the production process will speed up significantly. They are now working according to new programming standards that make it easier to oversee the various stages of development. https://www.eurogamer.net/the-witcher-4-runs-on-pc-ps5-xbox-cyberpunk-2077-lessons
https://gamerant.com/witcher-4-cyberpunk-2077-xbox-ps5-optimization/
I can confirm what was said here. Of course, I didn't witness the conversation myself, but I know about it from two sources—one official and one unofficial. CDPR agreed to accept help from "young and ambitious" programmers; they told them to start with simple tasks, but the deeper they got into the Red Engine, the better their results became. Ultimately, the guys are going to rebuild the game—they'll likely implement more mods, and perhaps create expansions like this in the future.
CDPR, I beg you: don't screw this up—do it like AoE 2! It’s a rare concept, but I know there’s a group of players dreaming of it—not just in Poland, but abroad too. An expansion every year and a half or two years for $30. A few missions, new mechanics, new regions, some story content, blah blah blah... And you’d face practically no costs for it! https://www.eurogamer.net/witcher-3-remaster-songs-of-past-expansion
If you're currently playing The Witcher 3, don't worry—your save file will carry over. https://gamerant.com/witcher-3-remastered-saves-achievements-carry-over/
The teams at GameRant and Eurogamer have prepared previews of the new expansion for us. I’m not even reading them; I want to experience it 100% fresh. https://gamerant.com/the-witcher-3-songs-of-the-past-preview/
https://www.eurogamer.net/witcher-3-songs-of-the-past-behind-closed-doors-preview
The Witcher's creators have a great chance to grow their audience. They have no sway over Sony—maaaaybe if they were Rockstar (though even then, I’d doubt it), they might have some influence. Or you could always just buy a different platform and ditch the PS5—I’d recommend PC, since Xbox can’t manage to stay pro-consumer for very long either. https://www.eurogamer.net/witcher-4-physical-edition-disc-ps5
[Witcher 4] Apparently, most of the company's resources are going into the fourth Witcher game. It’s a good idea, but I don’t know if they’ll manage to finish it by 2028. I’d prefer they delay the release to spring 2029; they’ll need to polish it anyway, and at least that way it won't be a launch disaster. And if you want to argue the point... The Witcher 1 was riddled with bugs like a shitty colander at launch (I’m not 100% sure on this specific detail, so I might be wrong, but there were definitely issues). The Witcher 2 was the same. The Witcher 3—you’ll never guess—was also riddled with bugs like a shitty colander... Plus, it ran terribly, patches rolled back save files, and generally speaking, CD Projekt Red should still be thanking Lady Luck today that players didn't flush them down the toilet after a launch like that.
Oh, and Cyberpunk 2077—a game whose ass many reviewers polished to a shine—wasn't a good game at launch either. On the other hand, it was riddled with bugs, including the inability to complete certain quests (even later on, some bugs in The Witcher 3 persisted across multiple patches—I’m not sure if the final major update fixed them completely), cars flying halfway across the city, and a host of other issues. https://gamerant.com/witcher-4-cyberpunk-2-development-resources-cdpr-statement/
[N64] Nintendo has released more games for its digital service featuring retro N64 titles. https://gamerant.com/new-nintendo-64-n64-games-2026-m64/
[Nintendo Switch Online] Three new NES-era games have been added. https://gamerant.com/nintendo-switch-online-nso-games-september-2026/
[NS 2 – price hike] Due to the deepening tech crisis, Trump’s hare-brained ideas, and so on, we’ll soon see another price hike for Nintendo consoles. Then again, it’s not just them—Sony and Microsoft are facing the same issues. https://gamerant.com/nintendo-switch-2-price-increase-how-much/
[Mario Kart Tour] Another Nintendo game is shutting down on September 30. https://gamerant.com/mario-kart-tour-shut-down-date-why-end-of-service/
[Pokémon] We’ll see two new Pokémon from the next generation during an upcoming event. https://gamerant.com/pokemon-go-maschiff-mabosstiff-mega-squads-september/
[Pokémon Winds and Waves] There’s a chance the game will be delayed due to a lack of promotion (or rather, complete silence surrounding it). https://gamerant.com/no-pokemon-winds-waves-wiwa-news-worlds-2027/
[Pokémon x Savvy Games] An Arab CEO with ties to the Pokémon franchise, among others, has lost his job. https://www.eurogamer.net/savvy-games-group-ceo-brian-ward-steps-down
[Stellar Blade] We’ve received details on the game's status. https://gamerant.com/stellar-blade-switch-2-fps-resolution-dlss/
[CoD MW4] Microsoft is so determined to get players to buy their hardware that they’re even offering $5 for free if you choose the Xbox (or PC) version over the PS5 one. Heh, does anyone remember when Game Pass was calling the shots not so long ago, and Sony was worried about CoD being added to the service? https://www.eurogamer.net/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-pre-order-xbox-5-usd-credit
[Game Pass September] Microsoft has released the list of free games for September. There are a few gems among them, such as Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage and Dune. https://gamerant.com/xbox-game-pass-new-games-coming-soon-list/
Plus, you can download a few games for free until September 6th. https://gamerant.com/free-games-to-play-this-weekend-xbox-september-6/
[State of Play] Sony came under verbal fire from Destiny fans and opponents of digital-only games. My partner and I recently finished watching Season 2 of Airbender. In one of the kingdoms, there’s a rule against speaking of "unpleasant things"—and "unpleasant things" are simply whatever doesn't suit the king. Aside from that, Sony announced some games, but it’s hardly worth discussing since Wolverine is their last major PS5 exclusive. You’ve created so many of them over the years—supposedly, the Nintendo Switch 2 has released more since its launch. And even if not, the numbers are close. You delivered the worst console generation, and now you want to screw over gamers like no one else before you. https://www.eurogamer.net/sony-state-of-play-no-disc-no-buy-destiny-3
[Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance] During the recent State of Play, Sony showed a preview of the next installment in the Monster Hunter series. Premiere next year. https://www.eurogamer.net/monster-hunter-ascendance-sony-state-of-play-traile
[Final Fantasy] The third part of the remake will debut in 2027, and FF: Resonance will get a demo version. https://www.eurogamer.net/final-fantasy-7-revelation-release-date-resonance-demo
The director revealed that even more cameos will appear in the third part of the remake. https://gamerant.com/ff7-revelation-characters/
A character from FF2 has joined the game. https://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-resonance-characters-firion-ff2/
[Sony is lying. Again.] Sony is defending itself—amidst a rising number of lawsuits regarding issues like market monopolization—by claiming that any reasonable consumer knows they do not actually own a digital game. Let me put it this way: since Sony regularly deceives and lies to players, it is fair to regard them with the same contempt one would feel for common swindlers. Of course, I’m not advocating for hate or vitriol, but expressing anger over lies or outright theft (such as the deletion of games and movies) is certainly justified.
I hope the lawyers win their cases against them. https://www.eurogamer.net/playstation-reasonable-consumers-know-dont-own-digital-games
[Helldivers 2] The studio has showcased the content they plan to introduce through the end of the year, including December. https://gamerant.com/helldivers-2-2026-content-roadmap-updates-improvements/
[Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet] Naughty Dog has finished creating a complex scene (or perhaps wrapped up filming entirely—I’m not sure how to interpret this news), meaning production is nearing completion. Let me put it this way: I have a feeling this game is going to flop because of that stupid mindset that drove game developers a few years back. Realism is just one of the things players appreciate. Every single one of us—whether we’re left-wing or right-wing, whether we like the state grabbing us by the ass (or the wallet, I mean), whether we’re into penises or holes, tomato soup or pickle soup—literally all of us play for escapism. That can mean different things to different people, but hardly anyone actually gets a kick out of ugliness. Game sales figures have proven this beyond a shadow of a doubt—and this was back when people were already discussing it online, on LGBT forums, and so on.
The naysayers can stomp their feet and spit on the floor in anger, but these are the facts. Despite massive promotion and ideological pressure from certain factions within their own circles, left-leaning gamers simply didn't want to play these games. Ugly, unnatural, or overly exotic characters tend to put people off to some degree. I’d be lying if I said visuals were the only issue, as players complain about other things too—limited mechanics, an underdeveloped engine, and so on. Nevertheless, an ugly character is an easy target for criticism and a point most people can agree on.
Fortunately, this experiment is coming to an end, and more people are adopting an attitude like Asha Sharma’s: a game needs to be, first and foremost, a good and well-conceived product. Part of a well-conceived product is showcasing an intriguing feature—something I don't see here yet. Instead, Naughty Dog seems keen on pushing this actress into the spotlight. https://www.comingsoon.net/games/news/2184170-naughty-dog-intergalactic-exciting-update-major-milestone
[PS+ - free games] Sony has started adding new games to the subscription service. They kicked things off with Wobbly Life. https://gamerant.com/free-ps-plus-games-this-month-for-september-2026-wobbly-life/
https://gamerant.com/ps-plus-free-games-september-2026-chained-echoes-full-lineup-claim-perk/
[Sony pulls the plug] We have a list of games that CD Projekt Red is removing. Some were taken down yesterday. https://gamerant.com/playstation-games-shutting-down-september-2026/
[Destiny 2] The game is being ignored by Sony and Bungie, so players took matters into their own hands and created their own mod—Sunrise. https://gamerant.com/destiny-2-project-sunrise-free-mod-season-pass-artifact/
[Kingdom Hearts] Did you know that Kingdom Hearts was originally supposed to look a bit different? Disney was hesitant because the idea of having The Lion King and Ariel side-by-side seemed bizarre to them. It’s funny, really—I grew up in that era, and I know plenty of players who would have given anything for that. https://www.eurogamer.net/kingdom-hearts-disney-making-own-version-super-smash-bros
[Ace Combat 8] We’ve learned about the multiplayer modes. Apparently, the developers granted many fan requests, but then I saw the publisher's name. Bandai are incredibly greedy—some of the worst people on Earth when it comes to being pro-consumer. https://gamerant.com/ace-combat-8-online-modes-social-space-revealed
[RDR 2] RDR 2 will soon showcase the capabilities of Nvidia’s new DLSS 5 service. I’m no expert, but from the research I’ve done (which was limited to watching videos by YouTubers who actually know their stuff or at least know more than I do), it seems Nvidia talks up this supposed revolution more than the service actually delivers. It’s an interesting novelty, sure, but I wouldn't get too hyped about it. The service alters the visual style of every game however it sees fit, which isn't exactly great. https://gamerant.com/red-dead-redemption-2-dlss-5-release/
[GTA] It’s playing out just as I wrote a few months ago. We’re going to be flooded with news right before the game launches. Let’s start today with the fact that the game is running quite well on PS5. I’d like to remind you about Digital Foundry—they started up when I was 14–16, and they’ve enjoyed a solid reputation ever since. I recommend reading their content instead of, say, grifters or Rockstar sycophants. https://gamerant.com/gta-6-ps5-pro-upgrade-30-fps/
We’ve received another batch of screenshots. The company also showed off its new GTA Online server. https://gamerant.com/gta-6-new-screenshots/
https://www.eurogamer.net/rockstar-games-official-gta-online-rp-server-closed-beta
Apparently, Rockstar has changed tactics. They also issued a statement regarding the current situation. https://www.eurogamer.net/gta-6-leaker-discord-subpoena-sealed-take-two
https://gamerant.com/gta-6-leaks-investigation-take-two-statement/
Our female companion from GTA 6 reportedly appeared in Online mode previously. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. I seem to recall Rockstar pulling similar stunts in the past. By the way, something apparently riled up TikTokers and kicked off some drama, though I’m not sure how serious it is versus how much is being artificially stoked by the company. https://gamerant.com/gta-6-lucia-actress-gta-online/
https://gamerant.com/gta-6-lucia-dating-microcheating-controversy-explained/
Rockstar promises improvements regarding issues players had complained about. According to a YouTuber who played GTA 6 for a few hours, for instance, we won't have to constantly hold down a single button just to run. https://gamerant.com/gta-6-tap-x-to-run/
The game will feature a reference to a famous French hit. https://gamerant.com/gta-6-clair-obscur-expedition-33-easter-egg/
The Netflix GTA preview racked up 31.1 million views in four days. I don't know about you, but some of my friends made a point of watching it right when it premiered or shortly after. I still haven't seen it myself—maybe I will someday if I'm bored. If my partner likes the look of it, we might pick it up on sale at some point. https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/gta-6-netflix-extended-look-views-1236848409/
