History of Malaysia Armed Forces
The origin of the Malaysian Armed Forces dates back to the formation of the Malay Regiment on 1 March 1933. With the formation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963, the Regiment was officially known as the Malaysian Armed Forces, Eight decades have passed which saw the Malaysian Armed Forces evolve from a colonial to a Full Spectrum Force. The long and arduous journey was not one without the sacrifice of blood, toil, sweat and tears as Malaysian were able to enjoy the peace while prospering from the peaceful environment maintained by the Malaysia Armed Forces. Today, the Armed Forces continue to serve the nation in the ever-shifting geostrategic environment, domestically and also beyond our shores. With state-of-the-art technology in implementing the man, machine and method approach, the Malaysia Armed Forces continue to preserve peace in the country and contribute to nation-building. This coin was minted to commemorate the Armed Forces eight decades of evolution towards becoming a full Spectrum Force. It serves to remind us of the sacrifices, efforts and legacy of the fore-bearer of the Malaysia Armed Forces. The three platforms depicted on the coin: the PT-91 Pendekar Main Battle Tank, the Scorpene Submarine and the Sukhoi SU-30M Fighter Aircraft reflect the integration on the surface, subsurface and aerospace dimensions of the modern battle. This coin is a testimony to the Malaysian Armed Forces endeavour to be a modern and effective Full Spectrum Force.
