¡Hola, amigos de la comunidad HivePest! ¿Cómo han estado? Hace unos días tuve una experiencia difícil con mi pequeña Sophy, estaba enfermita y casi no me percaté de su estado de salud.
Ella es la más pequeña de la familia. En la publicación anterior les comenté sobre ellos y de cómo llegaron a casa. Tener tres perritos puede ser un reto. Conozco personas que tienen hasta más de 10 mascotas en casa; la verdad que son dignos de reconocer por tanta valentía.

Sophy es la más juguetona e inquieta de los tres. Hace unos días me percaté de que estaba durmiendo más de lo acostumbrado; también la sentía caliente y temblaba en ocasiones. Les aseguro que ella es una perrita muy caliente, es como un motorcito caliente, dice mi pareja; su temperatura corporal a veces me preocupa, pero me han comentado que es típico de los perritos chihuahua y que también tiemblan por varias razones, hasta por miedo a los ruidos.
Ella está pasando por esa etapa en la que los cachorros mudan la dentadura; ya ha perdido algunos dientes y muelas, y le vienen saliendo los nuevos. ¡Todo esto me puso a pensar! La principal alarma fue cuando dejó de comer; es raro que un perrito pequeño deje de comer, aun mudando sus dientes. Al asociar eso con los síntomas anteriores, me asusté un poco y decidí llevarla a su veterinario.
Realmente el cuadro de la pequeña me preocupaba. Sophy siempre fue una perrita saludable, fue vacunada desde pequeña para prevenir enfermedades que pongan en riesgo su vida. Pero las cosas son así, por eso cada día aprendo que cuando una de nuestras mascotas muestra síntomas raros o cambio en su comportamiento, hay que llevarla al veterinario para descartar cualquier cosa.
>Sophy is the most playful and restless of the three. A few days ago, I noticed she was sleeping more than usual; she also felt hot to the touch and would tremble at times. I can assure you she’s a very hot little dog—my partner says she’s like a little hot engine. Her body temperature sometimes worries me, but I’ve been told this is typical of Chihuahuas and that they also tremble for various reasons, even out of fear of loud noises.
>She’s going through that stage where puppies are teething; she’s already lost some teeth and molars, and new ones are coming in. All of this got me thinking! The main red flag was when she stopped eating; it’s unusual for a small dog to stop eating, even while teething. When I put that together with the earlier symptoms, I got a little scared and decided to take her to the vet.
>I was really worried about her condition. Sophy has always been a healthy dog; she was vaccinated from a young age to prevent life-threatening diseases. But that’s just how things are—which is why I’m learning every day that when one of our pets shows unusual symptoms or a change in behavior, we have to take them to the vet to rule out any potential issues.
De la visita al veterinario.
Normalmente llevo a mis mascotas a la Clínica Veterinaria VET PET PINAR. De las clínicas que hay en la provincia donde vivo (Pinar del Río, Cuba), considero que es la mejor, con muy buenos médicos y condiciones para atender a las mascotas. En esta clínica radica la Filial Provincial de la [Asociación Cubana para la Protección de Animales y Plantas](https://www.ipscuba.net/directorio-sc/asociacion-cubana-para-la-proteccion-de-animales-y-plantas-aniplant/) (ANIPLANT).
Les cuento que cuando su médico veterinario la vio en la consulta se preocupó mucho; la última vez que asistimos fue de rutina y todo estaba en perfectas condiciones. La reconoció cuidadosamente y comentó sobre su estado general. En el examen físico se notaba que Sophy tenía un poco de fiebre, pero no se le veían síntomas visibles de algo más.
>About the Visit to the Veterinarian.
>I usually take my pets to the VET PET PINAR Veterinary Clinic. Of all the clinics in the province where I live (Pinar del Río, Cuba), I consider this to be the best, with excellent veterinarians and facilities for caring for pets. This clinic is home to the Provincial Branch of the [Cuban Association for the Protection of Animals and Plants](https://www.ipscuba.net/directorio-sc/asociacion-cubana-para-la-proteccion-de-animales-y-plantas-aniplant/) (ANIPLANT).
>I’ll tell you that when her veterinarian saw her during the appointment, he was very concerned; the last time we went was for a routine checkup, and everything was in perfect condition. He examined her carefully and commented on her overall condition. During the physical exam, it was clear that Sophy had a slight fever, but she didn’t show any visible symptoms of anything else.

Me senté en un banco del portal de la clínica con la pequeña en mis brazos y una hora después ya estaban los resultados. Sophy tenía un poquito de infección y las plaquetas un poco bajas. Ese mismo día se inició el tratamiento; fue por tres días. Lo más difícil de todo fueron las inyecciones. La verdad, que yo no quería que la inyectaran; me daba mucha tristeza verla llorar cuando le ponían el medicamento.
>They ran some blood tests on the little one; I thought it would be difficult to draw blood because she’s so tiny and her little legs are so thin, but the nurse was very skilled, and it all went very quickly and was easier than I expected.
>I sat on a bench in the clinic’s lobby with the little one in my arms, and an hour later the results were in. Sophy had a slight infection and her platelet count was a little low. Treatment began that very same day; it lasted three days. The hardest part of it all was the injections. To be honest, I didn’t want her to get the shots; it made me so sad to see her cry when they gave her the medicine.
Los resultados del tratamiento.
¡Fue cuestión de tiempo! La evolución de Sophy hacia la mejoría fue muy rápida. Ya el segundo día del tratamiento las preocupaciones empezaron a despejar mi mente. La temperatura corporal mejoró, los temblores desaparecieron y poco a poco reiniciaron los juegos con su hermanita Mina.
Confío mucho en este médico veterinario, por eso cuando uno de mis perros está enfermo, muestra algún síntoma raro o alarmante, lo llevo pronto con él. Siempre recuerdo sus palabras cuando me dice: Las mascotas son como niños pequeños; cuando se sienten mal o están enfermos, no tienen cómo decirlo, por lo que corresponde a los dueños estar pendientes de su salud e identificar cualquier cambio en su comportamiento.
>The Results of the Treatment.
>It was just a matter of time! Sophy’s recovery was very rapid. By the second day of treatment, my worries began to fade. Her body temperature returned to normal, the tremors disappeared, and little by little she started playing again with her little sister Mina.
>I have a lot of trust in this veterinarian, which is why whenever one of my dogs is sick or shows any unusual or alarming symptoms, I take them to see him right away. I always remember his words when he tells me: Pets are like small children; when they feel unwell or are sick, they can’t tell us, so it’s up to the owners to keep an eye on their health and identify any changes in their behavior.
La verdad, este consejo ha sido muy útil para mí; creo que lo tuve presente para darme cuenta de que debía llevar a Sophy al médico. Gracias a Dios todo fue un susto y se tomaron las medidas necesarias a tiempo.
Terminado el tratamiento, regresé con Sophy a la clínica para darle seguimiento. Su médico me comentó que había respondido muy bien al tratamiento y que ya estaba de alta médica, que, si le veía cualquier síntoma o algún comportamiento fuera de lo habitual, regresara con ella para valorarla, pero que todo debía estar bien.
>To be honest, this advice has been very helpful to me; I think it’s what made me realize I needed to take Sophy to the doctor. Thank God it was just a scare, and the necessary steps were taken in time.
>Once the treatment was finished, I took Sophy back to the clinic for a follow-up. Her doctor told me that she had responded very well to the treatment and was now cleared to go home. She said that if I noticed any symptoms or unusual behavior, I should bring her back for an evaluation, but that everything should be fine.
Para la felicidad de todos en casa, ya Sophy está de maravillas. Es una perrita feliz y saludable nuevamente. Me da mucha tranquilidad verla correr por toda la casa, con ese espíritu de grandeza y ese saltar constante, como si fuera una perrita gigante, cuando no mide 15 centímetros de suelo.
Mi recomendación, para todos los amantes de las mascotas que visitan esta comunidad, es que recuerden las palabras del médico veterinario, cuando me dijo: "Ellos son como niños pequeños…; corresponde a los dueños estar pendientes de su salud. Apliquemos estas palabras y verán que los resultados serán favorables.
>To everyone’s delight at home, Sophy is doing wonderfully now. She’s a happy, healthy dog again. It gives me such peace of mind to see her running all over the house, with that spirited energy and constant jumping, as if she were a giant dog—even though she’s barely 15 centimeters off the ground.
>My advice to all pet lovers visiting this community is to remember the veterinarian’s words when he told me: “They’re like little children…; it’s up to the owners to keep an eye on their health.” Let’s put these words into practice, and you’ll see that the results will be positive.
Durante este tiempo he aprendido que tener mascotas en nuestras casas es una responsabilidad muy grande. No se traen mascotas por caprichos o antojos de niños o adultos. Las mascotas se acogen en el hogar como un miembro más de la familia, para darles atención, protección y cariño; a cambio, recibiremos el amor más puro que jamás haya existido.
