¡Hola de nuevo, amigos de Hive Book Club! ✈️
Estoy muy emocionada de estar de regreso por aquí. Durante las últimas dos semanas me he sumergido por completo en la saga Windy City de la autora Liz Tomforde y, sinceramente, ¡me está encantando! En este momento ya voy por el penúltimo libro, pero no quería dejar pasar la oportunidad de hacer este post para hablarles especialmente del primero: Mile High. Este libro en particular tiene un lugar sumamente especial y apreciado en mi corazoncito, así que me hace muchísima ilusión compartirles mi experiencia con él.

Over the past two weeks, I’ve been completely immersed in the Windy City series by author Liz Tomforde, and honestly, I’m loving it! Right now I’m on the second-to-last book, but I didn’t want to miss the chance to write this post to talk to you specifically about the first one: Mile High. This book in particular holds a very special and cherished place in my little heart, so I’m really excited to share my experience with it with you.
Para ponerlos un poco en contexto, la historia gira en torno a dos personajes principales que se roban el show desde la primera página. Por un lado tenemos a Stevie, una azafata hermosa, morena y curvy a la que le apasiona su trabajo, aunque lucha internamente con ciertas inseguridades sobre su aspecto físico debidas a la incesante presión social. Por el otro lado está Evan Zanders, el co-capitán de los Chicago Raptors, un equipo de hockey de la NHL. Él es un hombre atlético, encantador y muy coqueto que utiliza los vuelos donde trabaja Stevie. Aunque a simple vista parece el típico jugador engreído, también tiene sus propias vulnerabilidades. Desde el momento en que sus caminos se cruzan en el avión, Zanders cae rendido y perdidamente enamorado de Stevie, dando paso a una conexión preciosa, genuina y llena de química.
> To give you a little context, the story revolves around two main characters who steal the show from the very first page. On one hand, we have Stevie, a beautiful, brunette, curvy flight attendant who is passionate about her job, though she struggles internally with certain insecurities about her physical appearance due to relentless social pressure. On the other hand is Evan Zanders, the co-captain of the Chicago Raptors, an NHL hockey team. He’s an athletic, charming, and very flirtatious man who frequently flies on the flights where Stevie works. Although at first glance he seems like the typical cocky player, he also has his own vulnerabilities. From the moment their paths cross on the plane, Zanders falls head over heels in love with Stevie, sparking a beautiful, genuine connection full of chemistry.
Para ser sincera, la primera vez que intenté leer este libro fue hace un par de años y lo dejé a medias, no porque fuera malo, sino porque quizás no me terminó de enganchar de inmediato o estaba concentrada en otras lecturas. Sin embargo, hace poco decidí darle una segunda oportunidad y caí rendida por completo ante Evan, Stevie y todos los personajes que los rodean. Si hay alguien con quien conecté desde lo más profundo de mi corazón, fue con Stevie. Su historia me llenó de una empatía enorme, porque sentir inseguridades por nuestro cuerpo es algo de lo que muchas veces no podemos escapar, y es algo que a mí me pasa hoy en día. Vivimos en una sociedad donde la gente juzga demasiado la apariencia y opina sobre cuerpos ajenos sin ningún filtro. Sentir la presión social de tener que encajar en estereotipos tan banales y lidiar con comentarios hirientes es realmente agotador. Amé a Stevie porque es un personaje determinado, fuerte y con un corazón gigantesco que demuestra una resiliencia increíble a pesar de las críticas crueles de su entorno. Leerla me recordó que no necesitamos encajar en estereotipos ridículos para ser valiosas ni para ser amadas, y que la aceptación es un proceso en el que debemos perseverar.
> To be honest, the first time I tried to read this book was a couple of years ago, and I gave up halfway through not because it was bad, but because maybe it didn’t quite hook me right away, or I was focused on other books. However, I recently decided to give it a second chance, and I fell completely in love with Evan, Stevie, and all the characters around them. If there’s anyone I connected with from the very depths of my heart, it was Stevie. Her story filled me with immense empathy, because feeling insecure about our bodies is something we often can’t escape and it’s something I still struggle with today. We live in a society where people judge appearance too harshly and comment on others’ bodies without any filter. Feeling the social pressure to fit into such trivial stereotypes and dealing with hurtful comments is truly exhausting. I loved Stevie because she’s a determined, strong character with a huge heart who shows incredible resilience despite the cruel criticism from those around her. Reading her story reminded me that we don’t need to conform to ridiculous stereotypes to be valuable or to be loved, and that acceptance is a process we must persevere in.
Por otro lado, la interacción entre Evan y Stevie es sencillamente divertidísima. Me reí muchísimo con la forma en que Evan intentaba molestarla y jugar con ella todo el tiempo en el avión, pidiéndole cosas de la nevera a pesar de tenerlas a dos pasos de distancia. Aunque al principio Evan proyecta ser el típico chico fiestero, coqueto y picaflor, a medida que avanza la lectura descubres que esa es solo una fachada impuesta. Me encantó ver su faceta real, humana y familiar a través de la conexión tan linda que tiene con el capitán de su equipo, su esposa y su hijita. En el mundo del deporte y la fama, los medios siempre están buscando cualquier pretexto para juzgar, y a Evan le tocaba vender la imagen del "chico rebelde" para asegurar la renovación de su contrato con los Raptors. Tener que sostener esa máscara era agotador para él, y ver su esfuerzo por encajar en un molde fabricado por su mánager me dolió un poco, aportando una profundidad muy real sobre la presión mediática a la historia.
> On the other hand, the interaction between Evan and Stevie is just hilarious. I laughed so hard at the way Evan tried to tease her and play pranks on her the whole time on the plane, asking her for things from the fridge even though they were just a few steps away. Although at first Evan comes across as the typical party guy flirtatious and a womanizer ✈️as the story unfolds, you discover that’s just a facade he’s put up. I loved seeing his real, human, and family-oriented side through the beautiful bond he shares with his team captain, his wife, and his little daughter. In the world of sports and fame, the media is always looking for any excuse to judge, and Evan had to sell the image of the “rebellious guy” to secure the renewal of his contract with the Raptors. Having to maintain that facade was exhausting for him, and seeing his struggle to fit into a mold created by his manager hurt me a little, adding a very real depth to the story about the pressure of the media.
El desarrollo de su relación me pareció una joya total. Al principio ambos intentaban resistirse a la atracción, pero la tensión era inevitable y terminó por explotar de la mejor manera. Fue hermoso ver cómo se iban mostrando sus lados más vulnerables; Stevie le enseñó su amor por el refugio de adopción de mascotas, y Evan, a pesar de ser un hombre sumamente elegante y refinado, se abrió completamente con ella. El camino no fue fácil, ya que ambos enfrentaban miedos grandes,Stevie temía perder su trabajo por romper las reglas al relacionarse con un jugador y lidiar con la presión familiar, aunque afortunadamente contó con el apoyo precioso de su compañera. Evan, por su parte, tuvo que romper con las mentiras que ataban su imagen pública. El libro no endulza las cosas y muestra que la prensa y la gente siempre van a juzgar, pero ver cómo ellos buscaron la forma de priorizar su amor sobre todo lo demás fue emocionante.
> I thought the development of their relationship was absolutely wonderful. At first, they both tried to resist their attraction, but the tension was inevitable and eventually exploded in the best possible way. It was beautiful to see how they gradually revealed their most vulnerable sides; Stevie showed him her love for the pet adoption shelter, and Evan despite being an extremely elegant and refined man opened up completely to her. The journey wasn’t easy, as both faced major fears: Stevie feared losing her job for breaking the rules by dating a player and dealing with family pressure, though fortunately she had the invaluable support of her colleague. Evan, for his part, had to break free from the lies that bound his public image. The book doesn’t sugarcoat things and shows that the press and the public will always judge, but seeing how they found a way to prioritize their love above everything else was heartwarming.
Para mí, Mile High fue una verdadera curita para el corazón. Como amante del romance deportivo, conecté a un nivel muy profundo con esta historia y sé que siempre la tendré presente. La lección que Zanders le da a Stevie sobre el amor propio es de las cosas más bellas del libro,él le hace entender que no es necesario amar cada detalle de tu cuerpo todos los días ni pretender ser perfecta, sino que el amor propio es un proceso continuo de respeto, aceptación y aprendizaje para reconocer lo valiosas que somos. Sin duda alguna, recomiendo este libro con todo mi corazón. Liz Tomforde tiene una de las mejores plumas en el género y amé esta historia con toda mi alma.
> For me, Mile High was a real balm for the heart. As a fan of sports romance, I connected with this story on a very deep level, and I know I’ll always cherish it. The lesson Zanders teaches Stevie about self-love is one of the most beautiful parts of the book: he helps her understand that you don’t have to love every single part of your body every day or pretend to be perfect instead, self-love is an ongoing process of respect, acceptance, and learning to recognize just how valuable we are. Without a doubt, I recommend this book with all my heart. Liz Tomforde is one of the best writers in the genre, and I loved this story with all my soul.
Qué viaje tan increíble ha sido leer esta historia!! Mile High se quedó grabado en mi mente de una forma muy especial, y de hecho, ya me terminé el segundo libro de la saga y estoy ansiosa por contarles todo sobre él en mi próximo post
