Agárrate aquel guatán Que me voy con la atarraya Por la orilla de la playa Nos iremos a pescar.
Hoy la mar está serena Y a flor de agua la lisa Y esta que escurridiza Se esconde entre la colmena.
Un cardumen que a la vista Su chapotear como ensayan Y aquí voy con mi atarraya A extenderle la camisa.
Atrapadas se han quedado véngase con el guatán Porque vamos a ensaltar Las que hemos agarrado.
Aquí se enredó un lebranche De buen tamaño compay ay, que buena pesca caray hicimos con este enganche.
Con esa modesta arroba ensaltada en el guatán ya nos podemos marchar ay, me duele la joroba.
El guatán y la atarraya implemento artesanal que a la playa va a buscar el sustento que nos calla.

Hold on to that guatán
Because I'm going with the cast net
Along the beach
We'll go fishing.
Today the sea is calm
And the mullet is just above the surface
And this elusive one
Hides among the beehives.
A school of fish that we can see
Splashing about as if rehearsing
And here I go with my cast net
To spread out the net for them.
They've been caught
Come on with the guatán
Because we're going to haul in The ones we've caught.
Here a mullet got tangled A good size, my friend
Oh, what a good catch we made with this hookup.
With that modest arroba hauled in the guatán we can leave now Oh, my back hurts.
The guatán and the cast net handmade implement that goes to the beach to seek the sustenance that silences us.
