The bible teaches us to alway help people who are poor and couldn't afford their meal. From the book of the old testament on the bible farmers are advised to leave some of the crops and fruits produce for people who can't afford their feedings to see something to eat. The main idea is that if you have more than you need, you're expected to share it with people who don't have enough.
The new testament teaches us that love is one of the greatest commandments, if we can love our neighbours the indirectly we are obeying all the ten commandments. Paul told early Christians to work hard so they'd have extra to give to people in need.
