Is the Android future now?

The 1999 movie Bicentennial Man start off with the phrase "the not to distant future...". Given the advancements in humanoid development we see happing today, one has to wonder if it will start to become reality in 2027 and instead of taking 200 years, will happen in 15 to 20 years instead?
