The Most Troublesome and Brilliant Set in My School

If there was one set in my school that teachers could never forget, it was definitely my set. We were known as the most troublesome set in the school, but at the same time, we were also known as one of the most brilliant sets. We were not the type of students that would make teachers completely relaxed. There was always one thing or another happening whenever we were together. Sometimes, it was noise. Sometimes, it was an argument. Sometimes, someone would do something that would make the whole class burst into laughter. But when it came to academics, we were serious. Whenever examinations were around the corner, the same set that had been giving teachers headaches would suddenly become very focused.
One thing about my set was that we knew how to mind our business when necessary. There was one particular teacher who taught us language, but speaking English was somehow a problem for him. I don't want to say much about that one because even thinking about some of the things that happened in his class still makes me laugh.
One day, this teacher was assigned to supervise our test. As usual, everybody was expected to keep quiet and concentrate on their papers. But one of the big boys in my class couldn't resist talking to his friend. The teacher caught him speaking and immediately collected his answer sheet.
That was not even the end of it. He gave the guy six strokes of the cane.
Everybody in the class was quiet. Nobody wanted to become the next victim. We simply minded our business and continued with our test.
But what happened the following morning is something I can never forget.
The moment we entered the school, we saw an obituary announcing the death of this same teacher. At first, we thought it was a joke, but the way everyone was talking about it made us believe it was actually true.
Before long, we were all mourning him during the morning assembly. We were told to observe one minute of silence in his honour. Imagine the whole school standing quietly, mourning someone we had seen the previous day.
Then, suddenly, the man we were mourning appeared right in front of us!
Honestly, I don't even know how to explain the confusion that followed.
The assembly scattered immediately. Some people were shocked and started running away, some started laughing, and others were simply looking at him as if they had seen a ghost. The man himself was probably more confused than all of us because he had no idea that he had already "died" and that his students were currently mourning him.
Someone that was supposedly dead had just appeared in front of us alive and well!
It took more than 30 minutes before everything finally calmed down. Even after the assembly, people were still talking about it and laughing. For days, the incident remained one of the biggest jokes in school.
Looking back now, I think that incident perfectly describes my set. We were troublesome, yes, but we were also brilliant and full of life. Somehow, trouble always seemed to find its way to us, even when we were not looking for it.
Our set gave our teachers headaches, but we also gave them memories they would probably never forget. And honestly, those crazy moments are some of the things that made my school days enjoyable.
If I ever get the chance to sit with my old classmates years from now, I am sure this will be one of the first stories we will bring up.
"Remember the day we mourned a teacher who was still alive?" That day can never be forgotten.
