The "Speed" stat is perhaps the most underrated and least-used stat in the game than most people realize, however, managing it correctly can directly influence our in-game performance and perhaps our win rate. Of course, simply mastering “Speed” doesn’t mean we’re invincible—far from it—but it can greatly help us improve our strategies and combos, since managing speed and taking it into account can improve our decision-making and our chances of winning.

A common mistake is that most players get caught up in very specific stats—in this case, “Attack” and “Health”—since both are truly decisive in any battle: one brings you victory—in this case, Attack—because if you don’t attack, you can’t win, while the other, if you don’t pay attention to it, can cause you to lose—since without cards that have good health points, you’ll undoubtedly lose the battle. However, the stat that can really make a big difference and can help us in both attack and defense is “Speed.” But don’t worry—I’ll explain why that’s the case.

So you can understand why this is so important, the first thing I’ll explain is how it works, since this statistic has two mechanics that—if you weren’t aware of them—I’m sure you’ll understand now, because these two give rise to what I call “Attack and Defense.” That’s why you first need to understand the basics in order to take advantage of them later. Simply understanding this straightforward concept will allow you to position your cards more effectively, see which ones can be useful in certain scenarios, or decide to discard some cards because one of the rules doesn’t work in your favor.

So, now that all of this is clear, let's see what I mean:

The Two Statistical Mechanisms of “Speed”

> The Attack Order: In Splinterlands, we play auto-battles, and the attack order for each battle depends on one specific factor: “Speed.” This means that the card that attacks first is naturally the one with the highest speed points, and the one that takes the longest to attack—that is, the last to do so—is the one with very low speed points; the worst-case scenario is 1 point. This is crucial because if we play cards that are very fast, we can attack before our opponent, which puts us ahead in terms of damage and gives us a much higher chance of winning a battle. > > Accuracy and Evasion: As I mentioned earlier, “Speed” determines both attack and defense, but I imagine many of you are wondering how that can be. Well, this is because if a card has very high speed, more physical attacks like “Melee” and “Ranged” have a fairly high chance of missing. which translates to “Defense.” Conversely, when it’s the card’s turn to attack, thanks to its high Speed, it’s very likely to hit its target, since it’s very difficult to dodge a card with high Speed. Additionally, as I mentioned earlier, you attack before anyone else on the field, so it strikes a perfect balance between “Offense and Defense.”

Here’s something many people don’t know, which is why it’s important to study every aspect of the game—because, yes, the idea is to keep it simple, but when you have this kind of information, you can use it to your advantage in battle while others don’t pay it the slightest bit of attention. So this is where we’ll see how everything works behind the scenes in official calculations, and once and for all, you’ll start to see speed as the most decisive “stat” in the entire game.

Speed as a “Defensive and Offensive” Tool

Something not everyone knows is that there’s a speed differential formula—as you’re reading or hearing, depending on how you’re viewing this post— This means that the game’s internal mechanics—in short, its algorithms—penalize the accuracy of “melee and ranged” attacks based on the difference in speed. With that in mind, here’s what you need to keep in mind:

Formula: For every point of speed that a card that is “Defending” has over the attacking card, the opponent’s card’s accuracy—or the probability of landing a hit—is reduced by 10%.

Example: Let’s take the example of an attacker with 2 speed points who wants to attack our tank, which has +5 speed points. This creates a 3-point difference, and if each point is reduced by 10%, that means the opponent’s card would have a 70% chance of hitting, since 100% minus 30% equals 70%. This leaves our monster with a base 30% chance of naturally dodging that attack during the course of the battle.

Offensive Speed: This works in a much simpler way, and I’ll explain it with a quick example. Let’s imagine that your opponent has a monster with an attack of 4 points that’s tall, but it has +1 speed, while on your side of the field you have very fast cards. The logic here is that you’re more likely to destroy it first before it even manages to attack with those 4 points, winning the battle before it can act.

La estadística de velocidad podría ser quizás la mas subestimada y menos usada en el juego de lo que más se piensa, sin embargo manejarla correctamente puede influir directamente en nuestro desempeño del juego y quizás en la tasa de victorias que podríamos obtener, por supuesto, solo el manejar a la perfección la “Velocidad” no quiere decir que seamos invencibles ni mucho menos, pero, si que nos puede ayudar mucho en como mejoramos nuestras estrategias y combinaciones, ya que al manejar la velocidad y tomarla en cuenta, puede mejorar nuestras decisiones y probabilidades de ganar.

Algo común que pasa es que la mayoría de los jugadores se dejan seducir por estadísticas muy puntuales, en este caso el “Ataque y la Vida”, ya que ambos son realmente determinantes en cualquier batalla, puesto que una te da la victoria, en este caso el ataque, si no atacas no puedes ganar, la otra sino le prestas atención te puede hacer perder, ya que sin cartas que tengan buenos puntos de vida, perderás sin duda la batalla, pero, la que realmente puede hacer mucho la diferencia y ademas nos puede ayudar tanto en ataque como defensa es la “Velocidad”, pero tranquilos que le explicare las razones del porque esto es así.

Así que, si quieres saber el porque la “Velocidad” es tan determinante en el juego, tienes que leer este post hasta el final, es importante porque este detalle tan obvio puede cambiar tu juego en Splinterlands.

Para que puedan entender porque esto es tan importante, lo primero que explicare es cómo funciona, ya que esta estadística tiene 2 mecánicas que, sino la sabían, estoy seguro de que ahora si entenderán, ya que es de estas dos surgen lo que yo llamo la el “Ataque y la Defensa”, es por eso que primero hay que entender lo más básico para poder sacar provecho luego. Literalmente entender esto tan sencillo te permitirá posicionar las cartas mejor, ver cual puede servirte en ciertos escenarios o mejor descartar algunas de las cartas porque una de las reglas no te favorece.

Entonces, con todo esto claro veamos a lo que me refiero:

Las 2 Mecánicas de la Estadística de “Velocidad”

> El Orden de Ataque: En Splinterlands jugamos auto batallas y el turno de ataque que tenga cada una de ellas depende de una sola cosa en concreto, este aspecto especifico es precisamente “La Velocidad”, esto quiere decir que, la carta que ataque primero naturalmente es la que tiene más puntos de velocidad y la que se tarde mucho en ataque, o sea la ultima en hacerlo es porque sus puntos de velocidad son muy bajos, el peor escenario es 1 punto. Esto es determinante porque si jugamos cartas que sean muy rápidas, podemos atacar primero que nuestro oponente, lo que nos pone por delante en el daño, dándonos una probabilidad mucho mas alta de ganar una batalla. > > La Precisión y la Evasión: Como ya había dicho antes, la “Velocidad” determina el ataque y la defensa, pero imagino que muchos se preguntaran como puede ser, pues, esto es así porque si tienes una muy alta velocidad en una carta, los ataques más físicos como el “Cuerpo a Cuerpo y de Rango” con una probabilidad bastante alta seguramente fallaran, esto se traduce como “Defensa”, ahora de forma contraria, usando la muy buena velocidad de la carta cuando a esta le toque atacar, lo mas probable que suceda es que de en el blanco, ya que es muy difícil esquivar a una carta que tiene mucha velocidad, por otro lado y algo que ya mencione, es que atacas primero que cualquiera en el campo, por lo que, tiene un equilibrio perfecto entre “Ofensiva y Defensiva”.

IMPORTANTE: Por supuesto esto es lo más básico, y quizás no me crearan con tan solo palabras, pero, como me gustan también los números se los mostrare en una sección en donde las probabilidades hablaran y confirmaran lo que es esta información “Teórica”, la cual, aunque la este escribiendo se basa en la practica que he tenido durante años jugando y donde he usado la “Velocidad” en cientos y miles de ocasiones como defensa y ataque que me han servido para ganar importantes batallas.
