>![ English] > >“Growing old is like climbing a great mountain: as you ascend, your strength diminishes, but your gaze becomes freer, and the view wider and more serene.” (Ingmar Bergman) To the wonderful #EmpowerTalent community: I send you virtual greetings from my neck of the woods. Today is a great day to give thanks, smile, love, and live—even when the weight of the years tends to limit your movements and actions. Don't give up; go with the flow, and keep fighting for your rights and for your happiness. A big hug!
A tu edad no puedes cometer semejante locura.
>![ English] > >The age-related mindset is deeply ingrained, especially when it comes to making decisions. There is a belief that people of a certain age should neither make moves nor take action—let alone plan their lives. Family members, and especially children, take it upon themselves to make decisions without considering the feelings of a human being who is still capable of remaining active in society. One thing I find particularly inappropriate is when people belittle you and say, in a derogatory tone: "At this stage of the game!" People of any age can dream and have life goals and plans. To me, it is simply a matter of disrespect—period. I believe the priority should be looking after the mental health of your loved ones. It means ensuring they have the essentials to feel well: proper nutrition, medication, creature comforts, recreation, and spiritual growth, among other things. These are the fundamental matters to focus on, along with simply enjoying time with your parents. I don’t know who this message might hit home for—as the saying goes—but believe it or not, some children engage in constant, senseless arguments with their parents, which really gives one pause. Sometimes, they pounce on their elderly parents with hurtful words if they happen to drop something, stumble, or forget things. When the parents want to make a decision or do something, the children come down hard on them, and the first thing they say is: “At this stage of the game”—at your age, you cannot do something so reckless. To all friends and older adults: make the most of your time, for while there is life, there is hope. Be grateful and find an opportunity in every detail, rather than sitting around lamenting the past. Do not miss the chance to reconnect, embrace, and share moments with family and friends. Remember that life is happening right now, and you must enjoy every second of it. And to the “children”: live your own lives, let your parents live theirs, and be grateful for the blessing of having them alive. Children, it is important for you to understand that loving means caring for and prioritizing the protection of your parents—those beings who have walked beside you every step of the way and given you unconditional love. Above all, do your best to enjoy life and create beautiful moments together. Otherwise, you are left with regrets: words left unspoken, hugs never given, and so much more. Food for thought!
>![ English] > >I am my own priority. Today, at 64 years old, I do not allow others to make decisions for me unless it is to my benefit. Many years ago, I decided to make myself my priority and to love myself more each day. When I feel down, I take refuge in my little corner alongside my three dear friends. I practice gratitude and reinvent myself, believing I still have time to leave negativity and the past behind—to rekindle my inner light and find balance and well-being. Above all, I choose to be happy and live the life I desire. Every dawn—the birdsong, the flight of the hummingbird, my son, “the love of my life”—confirms for me that life is worth living, that spiritual growth and learning are worthwhile. Above all, it reaffirms the importance of believing in myself and in my capabilities, and knowing that I came to this planet to do something special. As long as I am able, I will do my utmost to find opportunities that bring me closer to the dreams and goals I have yet to achieve. Sometimes I have doubts, but they pass, because I know who I am and where I am going. There is a common belief that in adulthood—or the "autumn of life," as it is also called—one has fewer responsibilities, but I do not see it that way. Even when a person is retired or nearing the end of their working life, the responsibilities remain the same; it is simply that one specific burden has been lifted. From my perspective, we must stop weighing the pros and cons and simply take action, for "time is money"—or rather, time is precious—and cannot be wasted, as we have less of it left. Today is the day to decide to make ourselves a priority and worry less about the ticking clock. I made that decision a while ago, along with addressing other things that were affecting me—like stopping my restless need for instant results and giving up a sedentary lifestyle. Bottom line: I need to get moving—walking and jogging—because I’m carrying a little extra weight. I think I look great as I am, but health comes first. I know it’s a real challenge for me, but I also know these activities will improve my physical and mental health. Another important thing I must always keep in mind is that we only get one life; as Simón Díaz used to say: “After this one, there is no other chance…” Just something to think about! “Knowing how to grow old is the greatest of wisdoms and one of the most difficult chapters in the great art of living.”

>![ English] > > In the blink of an eye, we reach adulthood; fears set in, and society begins to push us to box ourselves in. I believe we shouldn't allow that—and certainly shouldn't let our children decide what our priorities should be. When we face difficulties for any reason, we shouldn't despair; it is time to adapt to new changes, but we must never forget to say: "I am my own priority, and no one decides for me." Friends of #EmpowerTalent, we must not let ourselves be pushed around and shut away in a room. We must fight to the very end for our independence and our physical and mental health.
>A esta altura del partido” (at this stage of the game) is one of the many colloquial phrases we use daily in Argentina that obviously originates from the sport Argentines love most. It is used to express that something is happening at a very inopportune or ill-timed moment—that the right time for it has already passed.
