New Hummingbird feeder

My kids got a new hummingbird feeder for their 4th floor balcony in Chicago and the Ruby throated hummingbirds are loving it!
Getting some great photos!
Most of the male hummingbirds with the bright red throats have already migrated south this season, but there are still plenty of females and juvenile birds around. They will also begin the southern migration in the next few weeks.
>Males depart nesting grounds first, followed by females, and finally juveniles. Most species head toward wintering grounds in Mexico and Central America.
The ideal recipe for hummingbird nectar uses a simple 4:1 water-to-sugar ratio, which closely replicates the natural sucrose concentration of flower nectar.
4 parts water ( 4 cups) 1 part white granulated sugar ( 1 cup)
This is likely a juvenile male. If you look closely you can see one red feather on his neck.
No Red Dye: Chemical dyes are harmful and unnecessary. The red accents on the feeder are more than enough to attract hummingbirds.
All photos are from my family albums
