The woman king is an African movie that that emphasizes on history. This movie was directed by two persons, Gina Prince-Bythewood and stars Viola Davis as General Nanisca. The movie is centered on the story of brave women warriors known as Agojie, they brave warriors protected the kingdom of Dahomey, which is now part of Benin. The movie is filled with action, courage, friendship, and strong emotions.
The major person who played the best character of the movie is General Nanisca, played by Viola Davis. She is the main leader of the Agojie warriors and they all respected her for her braveness. She trains young women to become soldiers and prepares them to defend their kingdom. Nanisca is also a caring person who wants to protect her people and her fellow warriors.
The movie also talks about a little girl called Nawi who refused an arranged marriage, after the refusal she joined the Agojie even though she is a small girl. At first, Nawi finds it difficult to follow the rules and training. However, she slowly becomes stronger, more confident, and more disciplined. She learns how to fight and also learns the importance of working with others. Her relationship with the other warriors makes the story more interesting.
The woman king is very interesting movie because of Nanisca impressive actions on the movie, she played a vital role to make the movie outstanding. She shows both the strength and weakness of her character. She makes Nanisca look like a powerful leader, but she also shows that Nanisca has suffered and has painful memories from her past. Thuso Mbedu also gives a good performance as Nawi and shows how her character changes throughout the movie.
The scene which records about the fights which took place in the movie is another interesting side of the movie. The Agojie warriors trains hard and shows interest and focus in all their training. The battle scenes are fast and exciting. The warriors work together as a team, which shows their strength and courage. The costumes, music, locations, and camera work also make the movie beautiful to watch.
Another good part of the movie is the side where the female warriors cares for one another, they fight together, protects each other in difficult situations. This shows the importance of teamwork, loyalty, and sisterhood.
Another historical thing on the movie is slavery and slave trading. It tells us the bad impact to the society at large. Although some parts of the story are changed or simplified for the movie. Therefore, the film should not be seen as a completely accurate history lesson. It is better understood as a historical story inspired by real people and events.
In all together the movie is top notch and is recommended for those who love action movies. It has exciting action, strong characters, good acting, and an important message about courage and friendship. Viola Davis's performance makes the movie especially memorable. Although some parts of the story are not historically accurate, the movie is still entertaining and teaches viewers about the strength and bravery of African women warriors.
