A Star Is Born, and I'm a Little Worried

All of a sudden, my screen is filled with thumbnail after thumbnail of creators I follow talking about AGI being here, the singularity being now. And listen, I know their job is to clickbait people, but apparently there is some meat on that empanada.
The name: Astra.
Don't know the motivation for said name, but somehow it feels correct. I mean, if it's true that OpenAI just released the first AGI in the world, then saying a star has been born seems about right.
But this doesn't mean it's all peaches and cream from now on. No. As a matter of fact, I think the big changes, the really big ones, are on the cusp of happening.
Almost as if fate has a sense of humor, the whole job landscape is about to be turned upside down.
A plumber won't be too affected by AGI, I'm sure. But someone who does data entry, for example, might have to learn to fix a leaky pipe, and I'm not saying that without a tinge of sadness in my voice.
There's a movie that comes to mind. Joaquin Phoenix plays a guy who falls in love with his operating system. The voice of the OS is Scarlett Johansson, so there's that to it too, but the idea, once far-fetched, now seems like we are about to knock on its door.
The new AI, from what I can tell, would take full control of a computer, effectively replacing the human in tasks.
You need someone to comb over an inventory list and reconcile some issues, for example? Ask your AI-powered computer to do so.
A simple instruction would be enough, an explanation that you would probably give someone adept at that sort of thing.
"We need to reconcile this month's inventory. This is the correct one."
That's it.
That doesn't require prompt engineers, whatever that means. Just a human who knows what he or she wants, and a computer equipped with a worker that doesn't sleep, doesn't take smoke breaks, and presumably doesn't ask for a raise.
I'm not going to lie, there's a part of me that is excited too.
Since I was a young lad, I've thought about making video games. A task I lacked the skills or patience to do. But if the Mario Kart clone these YouTubers are showing in the demos is real, then it's literally making a video game. All it takes is a dream and a good idea.
Anyways.
I'm sure the other labs are about to reveal their bazookas. There is just no way Anthropic, Kimi, or DeepSeek, for that matter, don't drop a bomb this very week too.
After all, the race is still on, and OpenAI just showed its newest stallion.
What a time to be alive.
