A Sunny Morning at the Autokino Flea Market

Happy Sunday, everyone!

I did not have a plan today, but with just a little sunshine, a craving for something delicious, and the spontaneous idea to get out of the house, that was exactly how my morning began today, when I decided to visit the Autokino flea market in Groß-Enzersdorf.

Yes, we were blessed with a bright, sunny morning, with fluffy white clouds scattered across the blue sky. The temperature was pleasantly warm, not hot, making it a perfect day to be outdoors. I started my morning with a very simple breakfast: just one slice of toast with butter and marmalade and a cup of cappuccino. It was enough to get me going — although, as I soon discovered, I had something else in mind for breakfast!

The real reason for my little outing was a sudden craving for Lángos, a delicious Hungarian specialty that I hadn’t had in a very long time. There is a small Imbiss at the Autokino flea market in Groß-Enzersdorf where they make them, and since the market is only about 5 minutes from my apartment, I thought: why not? Sometimes, you simply have to satisfy a craving!

LÁNGOS... Lángos is a popular Hungarian specialty made from a soft yeast dough, traditionally deep-fried until it becomes golden, crispy on the outside and wonderfully fluffy inside. It is often topped with garlic sauce, sour cream, and cheese. The version I was craving was simply spread with a generous amount of liquid garlic sauce — and that was more than enough for me!

The Autokino flea market (Every Sunday) is a little different from the traditional flea markets I know. It is basically a drive-in flea market, where sellers arrive with their cars, park in their designated spots, and display their goods right beside their vehicles. Visitors can also conveniently park their cars at a free car park provided nearby.

When I arrived, there were already so many people busy examining articles displayed, from arts, kitchen stuff, garden/building/home machinery to used clothing and even second-hand bikes.

Once I had my Lángos in hand, I wandered around the market, enjoying my snack while casually looking at what the different sellers had on offer. I hadn't come with the intention of buying anything. I simply wanted to have a look around, enjoy the atmosphere and, most importantly, satisfy my Lángos craving!

There were plenty of interesting things to browse through, as you would expect at a flea market. Even without buying anything, I find it enjoyable to walk around and see what people have brought along — you never quite know what little treasures you might come across.

After finishing my Lángos, I felt that my little morning outing had accomplished exactly what I had hoped for. My craving was satisfied, I had enjoyed the sunshine, and I had spent a pleasant morning simply wandering around.

And with that, it was time to head back home. I didn't buy a single thing, but that wasn't the point of my visit anyway. Sometimes, a spontaneous little outing, a favourite snack and a beautiful sunny morning are all you need to make an ordinary day feel special. ❤️
