¡Hola, querida comunidad Music y apasionados de la música! Es un gusto saludarles nuevamente desde este espacio donde les presento mi top 3 personal que aborda, en cada entrega, diversos tópicos del mundo de la música. En esta oportunidad, he querido seleccionar 3 obras para piano solo del Romanticismo, escogiendo entre piezas Liszt y Chopin. Desde mi perspectiva, el Romanticismo fue la época dorada donde el piano se coronó como el rey absoluto de los instrumentos, y donde las exigencias técnicas e interpretativas llegaron a niveles casi sobrehumanos. Es por eso que hoy quiero compartirles mi Top 3 personal de las obras para piano solo más titánicas y demandantes de este período -desde mi humilde opinión.

This time, I've chosen three works for solo piano from the Romantic era, selecting pieces by Liszt and Chopin. From my perspective, the Romantic period was the golden age where the piano reigned supreme as the undisputed king of instruments, and where technical and interpretive demands reached almost superhuman levels. That's why today I want to share my personal top 3 of the most titanic and demanding solo piano works of this period—in my humble opinion.
3. Polonaise No. 6 in A-flat major, Op. 53, "Heroic," - Frédéric Chopin | Performed by Martha Argerich

Compuesta en 1842 como un brillante himno de resistencia y orgullo nacional por su amada Polonia, la Polonesa "Heroica" de Chopin exige al intérprete mucho más que virtuosismo; demanda una fuerza y claridad impecables para que sus masivos acordes canten con nobleza tras su imponente introducción. Sin embargo, el reto técnico y emocional más monumental aguarda en su sección central: un implacable ostinato de octavas descendentes en la mano izquierda que simula el galope de la caballería. Mantener este exigente pulso, lo cual requiere una resistencia muscular tremenda y una total relajación de la muñeca para evitar el colapso, mientras la mano derecha dibuja líneas melódicas tan heroicas, convierte a esta obra en uno de los mayores y más fascinantes desafíos de nuestro instrumento.
> Composed in 1842 as a brilliant anthem of resistance and national pride for his beloved Poland, Chopin's "Heroic" Polonaise demands far more than virtuosity from the performer; it requires impeccable strength and clarity so that its massive chords may sing with nobility after its imposing introduction. However, the most monumental technical and emotional challenge awaits in its central section: a relentless ostinato of descending octaves in the left hand that simulates the gallop of cavalry. Maintaining this demanding pulse, which requires tremendous muscular stamina and complete relaxation of the wrist to avoid collapse, while the right hand draws such heroic melodic lines, makes this work one of the greatest and most fascinating challenges for our instrument.
2. Gran galope cromático, S.219 - Franz Liszt | Performed by Valentina Lisitsa

Publicada en 1838 en plena "Lisztomanía", el Gran Galop Cromático es una deslumbrante exhibición de bravura que fusiona el espíritu lúdico del circo con la brillantez del salón de conciertos mediante un uso magistral del cromatismo. Abordar esta partitura es una verdadera proeza que exige del intérprete un verdadero maratón atlético para mantener un pulso galopante y festivo a una velocidad endiablada. El reto radica en ejecutar saltos de precisión milimétrica, potentes acordes y velocísimas escalas con reflejos casi felinos, articulando cada nota con absoluta nitidez y evitando que la tensión bloquee el antebrazo, lo que la convierte en una auténtica prueba de fuego para la resistencia y el mecanismo de cualquier pianista.

Tackling this score is a true feat, demanding a veritable athletic marathon from the performer to maintain a galloping, festive pulse at breakneck speed. The challenge lies in executing leaps of pinpoint precision, powerful chords, and lightning-fast scales with almost feline reflexes, articulating each note with absolute clarity and preventing tension from locking the forearm, making it a true test of endurance and technique for any pianist.
1. La Campanella (Grandes Études de Paganini, S. 141 No. 3) - Liszt | Performed by Evgeny Kissin

Basada en el rondo final del Concierto para violín No. 2 de Paganini, "La Campanella" (1851) traslada magistralmente la magia del violín al piano, exigiendo un sonido cristalino y ligero que ilustra el incesante repique de una campana a través de texturas agudas y resplandecientes. Desde el punto de vista biomecánico, esta obra somete a la mano derecha a una prueba implacable mediante infames saltos a velocidades alarmantes que demandan una precisión de francotirador y una memoria muscular perfecta. Para superar este desafío sin acumular tensión, la muñeca debe funcionar como un resorte, permitiendo que los dedos reboten ágilmente mientras se enfrentan a vertiginosos trinados con los dedos más débiles, rápidas repeticiones y exigentes escalas cromáticas que llevan al límite el mecanismo y la independencia de cualquier intérprete.

Todo el virtuosismo condensado en este Top 3, me lleva a reflexionar que lo grande no es tocar decenas de notas por segundo, sino, además de ello, lograr conmover al oyente, transmitir sentimientos. Por otro lado, estas obras nos demuestran la increíble capacidad de superación humana frente a este hermoso instrumento.
